In other words, it just quiet ends, and then starts up like nothing happened.

The core isn’t working too hard - I’m running a convolution filter, but running at over 100x (so not showing processor in signal path) when playing redbook files, which is what I’ve been listening to for over an hour.

I can’t check the temperature, obviously, but fan is not set to quiet, doesn’t seem dusty, case doesn’t feel warm (not that that would mean anything). SSD failure? Power fluctuation despite being connected to a UPS?

It happened once a couple weeks ago, but I just brushed it off as random. Now it’s been twice.

Any ideas? Any thoughts on things to try, or just live with it and see if it happens again?

[Please, no over-the-top comments on the Repo Man soundtrack… I listen to it once every couple of years and love it; it’s not what I usually listen to through Roon!]

EDIT - one random note is that the moment that I restarted the NUC and my remote opened up, I got the notification to update to earlyrelease b1212. Hadn’t occured to me that a download/pending core update might cause a power off, but that is a random data point if it’s useful.

I had these symptoms, and the case didn’t appear dusty. However, there was a lot of dust in the fan enclosure, which can only be seen and cleaned by stripping down the NUC. Later, I bathed the fan in an alcohol / deionized water mix as it was a little noisy.

After cleaning, the NUC operated correctly, and fan silent again.

Hmm, ok, wouldn’t have occurred to me, but I have plenty of compressed air about, so I can try that. Thanks - will revert.

Hey @Johnny_Ooooops,

Thanks for your patience! I wanted to follow up and see if @Martin_Webster’s tip helped out?

If not, and if it’s possible, the next time your core crashes, can you jot down the date and time, and share that info here? We’ll be able to take a closer look with a more specific time stamp.

Thank you!
