Hello @Michael_Putz,

Thank you for the detailed report and the timestamps — that’s very helpful.

Given the pattern you’re describing (slow searches, crashes during editing, crashes during backup, and spontaneous server restarts), this strongly points to a Roon database-level issue, rather than a network or playback problem.

To determine what is happening, we need to inspect your database directly.

Please create a compressed copy of your Roon database and upload it using the secure link below:
https://workdrive.zohoexternal.com/collection/gnhz54df9ddffa33d49a3be8619bd6376a5de/external

How to locate and compress your database

Please follow the instructions in this article to find your database folder on macOS:

Once you’ve located the folder, it will be named RoonServer

  1. Quit Roon on all devices
  2. Right-click the RoonServer folder
  3. Choose Compress to create a .zip archive
  4. Upload that .zip file to the link above

Once the upload is complete, please let us know here and we’ll proceed with the analysis.

Thanks for your quick response @vadim! I’ve just send you the uploades .zip file.

Hi @Michael_Putz,

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you’ve uploaded your database successfully. Do you have a recent backup? This may also work.

  1. Zip up your RoonBackups folder (right-click it and select “Compress…”):

  2. Submit the .zip file to us through our Database Issues portal

Let me know when you’re able to complete this. Thank you!

@vadim & @benjamin
I’ve just send the .zip file properly (using the secure link mentioned above). This should be the proper and full version.

Thanks for your help,
Michael

Thank you @Michael_Putz! We’ll follow up with more information once our team has had time to further analyze the backup you’ve sent over.

Hi @Michael_Putz,

Thank you for your ongoing patience. This is taking longer than any of us would like. We’ll respond as soon as we have more information.

@benjamin , I am curious about your progress and what additionaly I can do to help? The crashes during listening and surfing/exiting do continue

Hi @Michael_Putz,

Thank you for your patience while we continue to look into this.

At the moment, our R&D team is still actively investigating the underlying cause of the behavior you’re seeing (slow search and edit operations, crashes during edits and backups, and intermittent restarts). Unfortunately, we don’t have a confirmed fix or a timeline to share just yet.

We understand this isn’t ideal, and we appreciate you working with us while the investigation is ongoing.

While this won’t address the root cause, some users in similar scenarios have seen improved stability and responsiveness by increasing the amount of available RAM on their system. Metadata editing, search, and backup operations are all memory-intensive, and additional headroom can sometimes reduce the frequency of slowdowns or crashes while we work toward a fix.

This step is entirely optional — but if you’re interested in exploring a memory upgrade:

  • Please let us know here, and we’ll be happy to share recommended RAM specifications for your Nucleus One.

We’ll continue to follow up as soon as we have any updates from R&D. Thank you again for your detailed reports and your patience.

@vadim - thank you a lot for the update. While I’ll wait for your follow up / updates from your R&D, I am interested in learning how to do a memory upgrade for my Nucleus One.

Thanks

Hi @Michael_Putz,

Surely - below is the information and step-by-step process to manually upgrade the RAM in your Nucleus:

Here is the RAM we suggest:

Suggested: Crucial DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 2

Requirements: DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 - ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 260-pin, PC Speed = PC4-21300, Voltage = 1.2V, Rank and Configuration = 1Rx16, 1Rx8 or 2Rx8

And here is the step-by-step for replacing the RAM. Be sure to make or have a recent Roon backup or two saved!

Power Down and Unplug the Nucleus:

Turn Off the Nucleus by properly shutting it down through the Roon app or web interface.

Unplug all cables, including power and network cables, from the Nucleus.

Open the Nucleus Case:

Remove Screws: Use the screwdriver to remove the screws securing the top cover of the Nucleus.

Lift the Cover: Carefully lift and remove the top cover to access the internal components.

Install the New RAM:

Locate the RAM Slot: Find the RAM slot on the motherboard.

Remove Old RAM (if upgrading): If you’re replacing the existing RAM, gently release the clips and remove the old RAM module.

Insert New RAM: Align the new RAM module with the slot and firmly press it down until it clicks into place, ensuring the clips secure it.

Reassemble the Nucleus:

Replace the Cover: Put the top cover back on and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.

Power On the Nucleus:

Reconnect All Cables and power on the Nucleus.

Check Functionality: Ensure that the Nucleus starts up correctly and that Roon operates as expected.

If you encounter any issues or have any questions during the process, feel free to ask for further assistance!

Please note: The Nucleus Titan/One is sold in a tested and recommended configuration. In the event a user modification results in unexpected behavior or a unit malfunction, warranty coverage can be at risk.

@benjamin - thanks for the info. I’ve checked but this item seems to be out of stock in the markets, can you recommend an alternative that would fit?

Hi @Michael_Putz,

No problem at all — the exact brand isn’t critical here.

Any DDR4 SO-DIMM module that matches the specifications below should work fine, whether purchased locally or online:

  • DDR4
  • 2666 MHz
  • CL19
  • Non-ECC
  • SO-DIMM (260-pin)
  • 1.2V
  • PC4-21300
  • 1Rx8, 1Rx16, or 2Rx8

You don’t need the exact Crucial model — just make sure the module meets these specs, and it will be compatible with the Nucleus One.

Let us know if you’d like us to double-check a specific model before you purchase it.

@vadim @benjamin
I’ll try this and I’ll come back to you with feedback, if there’s any improvement.

Also, I’d like to add, that the overall response speed of roon is improved after roon was completely shut down for a day or two. Everything’s faster then, but performance quality descreases the more hours I use roon after restart…
