Roon Server crashes when starting a song with lyrics display enabled on Sony Google TV in screen-saver mode (ref#1RKUB1)

How can we help?

· I am experiencing freezes or crashes

Describe the issue

I have a Sony Google TV that shows album art and lyrics when I play to a zone in the same room (DMP-A8). All is well unless the TV is in a screen-saver mode, then starting a song will crash the Roon server. If I disable lyrics display the song will play just fine.

Describe your network setup

TP-Link Deco mesh wifi. TV and DMP-A8 connected via wired ethernet.

Hi @Brian_Smithson,

Thank you for the report. The team has activated diagnostics for your account to pinpoint the crash in logs.

Do you have an example of a track that was playing - or an approximate timestamp - when RoonServer last crashed?

Hi Connor!

Yes - it was Saturday afternoon (8/10/24) about 4-5PM EDT. We were trying to play Phil Collins “In The Air Tonight”. Playback would start, then the app (on my android phone) would spin and finally say “waiting for Roon server”. It was only after I turned off lyrics on the screen associated with this zone did playback complete successfully.

The TV was in screen-saver mode. If the TV is in this mode, I don’t care if Roon cannot display lyrics, so don’t take this as a “wake the screen up” demand. Just turn off lyrics and don’t crash!

Thanks for looking into this!

Hi @Brian_Smithson,

Can you please share the specific model of Sony Google TV you’re using?

If you open a Web Display on a Browser in that TV, or on any other device in your setup, are you able to replicate this crash?

Good afternoon, Connor!

The TV is a Sony BRAVIA XR75X93L

The “about this TV” section on the TV itself says:
Model: BRAVIA 4K VH22
Android TV OS Version: 10
Android TV OS security patch level: April 1, 2024
Kernel Version: 4.19.75 #1 Thu May 30 04:22:16 JST 2024

I can run a browser on my PC (Win11) and an Android tablet and display lyrics there, but they are not in screen-saver mode.
I do not have a browser installed on my TV.

I think the key is the screen-saver mode. If it is not in that mode, lyrics and album art display just fine.

Could this have anything to do with the fact that I am running Roon on a Synology?

-Brian

Hey @Brian_Smithson,

Thanks for the additional info! We have a ticket in to review with development later this week.

If it happens again in the meantime, feel free to share an additional timestamp / name of track. Thank you!
