Roon Server Crashing and Restarting After Renewal (ref#8GGT01)

Full form submission

What’s happening?

I'm having trouble connecting to Roon

What type of connection issue?

Something else

Dear Roon Team,

I have had an annual subscription since February 2023.
After the automatic renewal until 2025, my Roon server no longer works. It keeps crashing and restarting with the message Waiting for Roon Server. Roon is installed on a Ripnas. Listening to music is not possible. I would be pleased to receive an answer, as I would like to continue using Roon and do not want to switch to another server product.

Kind regards
Roland Stejskal

Hi @Roland_Stejskal,
Welcome to the forum. Can you tell us the make and model of your network devices and how they are connected? Also if you can tell us the date and local time that this issue occurred we will activate diagnostics on your account so we can investigate further.

Hello Daniel,
Thank you for the quick message. As I have already written, I am running Roon on a Ripnas with Windows 11. The device is only switched on when I want to listen to music. The music itself is stored on a Synology 218 + Nass. My Roon subscription was extended until February 22nd. Since then Roon has not been running properly. Roon gives the error message and restarts the server at different times.

Greetings
Roland

Hi @Roland_Stejskal,

Please take note of the specific date, time, and track playing when this happens next. We’re unfortunately not able to connect to your Roon Server device to enable diagnostics, so if you could please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

HI Bemjamin,

Unfortunately, I am unable to start Roon. The message “Waiting for server” keeps coming up and won’t let me start any action. Roon is restarted every 15 seconds. I can no longer play a song.

Greetings
Roland

Hi @Roland_Stejskal,

This setup unfortunately falls outside of our scope of support - are you able to test out setting up Roon Server on another device to test for functionality within your home network?

Hello Benjamin,

without having changed anything, my Roon server has been working again since yesterday. It’s great that it’s working again. I would be interested to know what the problem was.

Thanks for your help
Greetings
Roland

Hello Menzi,
Thank you very much for your quick reply. The Ripnas server is a device based on the Windows 11 operating system. It worked until the subscription renewal on 22.02.2024. As it has been again since yesterday.

Greetings
Roland

The Ripnas system was originally released with the now-defunct Windows Home Server OS (Microsoft stopped support in 2016). I’m surprised that you’ve been able to install Windows 11 on what is probably an old generation Atom CPU…

Hello Geoff-Coupe,

RipNas is now available in its 7th version (RipNAS SOLID V7 Highend).
The housing is almost identical to the 1st version. My RipNas is version 6 with a 6th generation Intel i5.

Greetings
Roland

Thanks for the clarification. When you say it has a “6th generation Intel i5” - is it using an Intel NUC 6th generation board? If so, please check that your BIOS version is at least at version 0042 or later. That was a mandatory release from Intel to fix an issue with the voltage regulator circuitry.
