Roon server fails to open post Windows 11 security update on Ethernet-connected PC (ref#TQASYC)

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

Hello! After a Windows 11 security update on a PC connected via Ethernet to my Telus fiber network, my Roon server no longer opens. The page says "Waiting for Roon server." This is the first time this has happened. This morning Roon was working perfectly. I have a lot of albums and playlists since I subscribed. I have a backup from November 29th. Please help me. Thanks!

Hi @jlegarer,

Please try verifying that the Windows Defender firewall hasn’t defaulted back and removed RoonServer.exe, RoonAppliance.exe, and RAATServer.exe from the safelist. Windows 11 security updates tend to re-restrict Roon.

If this doesn’t help, give us a ping here and we’ll proceed with next steps.

Hi @jlegarer,

Account diagnostics indicate that your RoonServer instance might have pinged our servers since you first posted here. Are we correct in assuming that you’ve resolved the problem behind the scenes?

This thread will stay open for a few more days in case we can assist further, but without any response it will eventually auto-close. Let us know if we can help further. Thank you!

Translation
I had to uninstall Roon and reinstall it. Since then, Roon sometimes stops working and a window appears saying “waiting for Roon server”. I have to either restart Roon or my laptop. What’s more, when I return to the Roon screen, the screen sometimes flashes continuously. I have to close it and restart it. I still have the same hardware and the same laptop.

Hi @jlegarer,

Did you add RoonServer.exe and associated Roon processes to the Windows Defender firewall safelist? What about any third-party antivirus software or other firewalls you have installed?

The message you’re seeing indicates that RoonServer and the Roon application itself can’t communicate through the loopback interface on the same machine. This usually indicates that Windows or network security has completely restricted network access for either Roon or RoonServer as a process.

Please let us know if this helps.

H @jlegarer,
