Tell us what's going on

· Description
Hello,

My Roon installation stopped working immediately after installing the latest Roon update.

System
Mac mini M1 (Apple Silicon)

macOS Ventura 13.7.8 (22H730)

Roon Production branch (to the best of my knowledge)

This Mac is dedicated to Roon and is my only Roon Server.

Symptoms
Roon GUI stays at “Waiting for your Roon Server”.

Clicking “Start Roon Server” never succeeds.

Reinstalling the latest Roon application does not solve the issue.

Rebooting the Mac does not help.

Investigation performed
Verified there is only one Roon Server instance.

Removed and recreated the Roon lock files.

Verified /tmp and /var/tmp permissions.

Verified that temporary files can be created normally.

Disk has approximately 48 GB free.

Renamed the ~/Library/RoonServer folder for testing.

Reinstalled Roon completely.

None of the above changed the behavior.

Running RoonServer manually
When launching:

./RoonServer
I initially received:

Error: Could not create required lock file
GetLockFile, res: -1
errno: 0
After deleting the lock files from:

/tmp/.rnsgem502-
/var/tmp/.rnsgem502-
the output became:

GetLockFile, res: 0
Trace: Nope, we are the only one running
After that, the server produces no additional output and never completes initialization.

Current behavior
RoonServer remains running.

CPU usage stays around 90–95%.

RAATServer never starts.

Roon GUI never finds the server.

Diagnostic information
I also captured a macOS sample of the RoonServer process for 10 seconds.

The sample identifies:

Identifier: com.roon.RoonHeadlessManager
Version: 0.0.1
Architecture: ARM64
I can provide:

the complete sample output,

RoonServer_log.txt,

additional logs if needed.

Has anyone seen this behavior with the latest Production build?

Thank you!

Hello @Yves_B ,

Thank you for your message. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a full set of Roon Server logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

Thank you. I have submitted my log files (under my name) and a console report. I am desperate… I need music… Thx

Hello, The zip file has been uploaded. [moderated: email address removed]

Thank you,

Yves

I also uploaded a sample file (sample 1812 100 in Terminal).

Thank you,

Yves

Hi @benjamin,

Any updates? I see several users q with the same problem. Would it be possible to provide a version that is working? I have read on another post that 2.57 is working.

I have been using Roon for more than 10 years now. It is the first time I got a problem with it. I am looking foward to have a solution to listen to my music.

Thank you,

Yves

I have had the same issue for 4 days. That’s unacceptable in 2026. Have been a client for 10+ years too. And to have to beg for support in a public forum is ridiculous.

Is this fix applies to me too? Looks like it but I did not get a reply in this ticket.

Thank you,

Yves

Downloaded the fix and installed it. I am still doing some test but Roon is back and music is playing. Thank you,

Yves.

Hello @Yves_B

Yes, that was exactly the fix for your case, and we are glad music is playing again.

One thing to close off from your earlier message, since it went unanswered: rolling back to 2.57 would not have been a good route. The database format is upgraded when you move to a new release, and older builds cannot read it, or may cause further issues.

Please carry on with your testing, and if anything still looks wrong after a day or two, reply here.
