· My Roon Server has been struggling to update to the newer versions. In the past, I was able to get the Roon Remote to update to 2.71, but the Roon server kept giving me this ‘error checking on update’ error.
In another thread on this forum, you suggested I reinstall by downloading the latest version from Roon Labs. Essentially, starting over with the latest. Here’s the challenge. When I did that, it took me BACK to the 2.67 build, not update the server to 2.71.
When Roon tried to update to the latest, it was back to the ‘checking’ error. Here is the change log. You can see, I’ve been to 2.71, but now I’m back to 2.67 again after the reinstall.
There is either some setting on my Mac that is preventing the update (creating the ‘error checking for an update’ message) or its in your software. I haven’t been able to figure out which.
MY SYSTEM: Roon Server running on a M4 Mac Mini with 24GB of main memory. The Mac is running MacOS Tahoe (26.6.2) Music files held on a UGreen 4800+ NAS (connected via a 10GB ethernet port)
Can you help?
Thanks, George

· Google Fiber router, UniFi switches connected to the router.
Chain: Router -> USW Pro Max 16 -> USW Flex XG (10GB) -> M4 Mac Mini.
Though this problem seems unrelated to the network.
Thanks for the detailed write-up. The behavior you’re seeing points to a versioning or update path problem on the Mac, rather than anything with your NAS.
Please start by downloading and installing the latest Mac package again from our download page, then open Roon Server and see whether it offers the newer update normally from there: Download Roon for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and ARC
If it still drops back to the older release or shows “error checking for update,” please tell us whether the same Mac Mini has any VPN, security software, or content filtering running, and whether the update screen fails immediately or after it starts checking. We’ll also want to know if the Roon Server app itself launches normally after the reinstall.
Searched through various menu items looking for VPN, security software, or content filtering. Here are the ones I could find.
NETWORK → Firewall, listed as Inactive.
VPN: No.
SECURITY: Went into Privacy & Security
→ Files & Folders → Added Roon as ‘Full Disk Access.’
→ Full Disk Access → Made sure Roon was on that list.
→ App Management → added Roon as allowed to update and delete apps.
→ Local Network, lists Roon as on. Curiously, it shows Roon 3 times under this selection: Not sure what that means. Running 3 separate apps? When I tried to turn off one, they all went off.
OTHER SETTINGS:
→ Sensitive Content Warning, off
→ Content & Privacy, off
Not sure which it was, but one of those changes allowed me to do the update. I am now listed as 2.71 (build 1683) with both showing ‘latest version’. not the error message.
Does this mean it will update regularly from now on?
Hope so. Thanks for guiding me in the right direction.
