Describe the issue
Albums view filter hangs Roon Server when typing “O” followed by any second letter — global search works fine
I’m seeing a repeatable performance issue with Roon Server on Unraid/Docker.
It’s difficult to say if this issue has always been present, or appeared recently.
Issue
In Albums view, using the local filter/search field:
Typing O is fine
As soon as I type any second letter after O — for example OV, OA, OB, etc. — Roon Server hangs
It does not crash, but becomes unresponsive
Individual CPU cores spike heavily.
RAM does not spike
Playback is fine
This happens even with no music playing
The global/top search bar and Artist/Tracks view search works fine
The issue seems specific to the Albums view filter, not general search
What I’ve checked
Roon database/appdata is on SSD cache, not the array
Server idle usage is low, around 2% CPU
RAM sits around 45%
Filters/Focus in Album view are disabled
Playback works normally
Global search works normally
The problem only appears when filtering within Albums view
Current behaviour
The server doesn’t seem resource-starved at idle. It feels more like the Albums browser/filter is getting stuck in a runaway query or bad index state after the recent import.
Looking for advice on
Whether this sounds like an Album view index/cache issue
Whether a corrupt/odd metadata object could cause this
Best way to rebuild/clear the relevant cache/index without risking the whole database
Any specific logs I should capture while Roon is hanging
Happy to provide logs if useful. The key reproducible test is:
Go to Albums view → click the local filter/search field → type O → then type any second letter → Roon Server hangs and CPU cores spike.
Hey @Ryan_Kitchen, thanks for the report. I tried to reproduce this on our end, but I haven’t been able to trigger it.
Can you reproduce the issue again and let us know the exact local time and date when it happens? We’ll enable diagnostics for your account and review the logging.
Weirdly, the issue seems to be slightly different on the second attempt. Yesterday it was hanging the roon server indefinitely and a reboot was required to resolve it. However today it appears to be complete the search, but O + any other letter is significantly longer (~10 secs) than any other combination of letters which is instant.
