Per previous issues, I started moving library into smaller sub folders. When I start Roon, same issue as before. Just spins and library doesn’t ever update.
ARC still doesn’t work after port forwarding from last ticket.
Do I need to do a complete reinstall of Roon server each time I make significant changes to the external hard drive Roon server is pulling from?
I’ve spent more time at this point trying to get Roon to work for me than I have listening to music.
Thank you for your patience. I’ve merged your post into the previous thread so we can cleanly resolve these issues as soon as possible. Please allow us a chance to review the most recent diagnostic logging available from your RoonServer. We’ve requested an automatic report from the machine that should upload on its own as soon as you open Roon for about 10 minutes or more. Once we’ve identified the relevant errors, we can determine whether this is in the GUI or the server itself.
Concerning ARC, what’s the current error message listed in Roon Settings → ARC?
We’ll watch for your response and pin this down finally from there. Thank you again!
We’re seeing a fair amount of scanning around tags related to your tracks, have you made any updates in this area?
Trace: [music/retagextract] extracting tags for LibraryTrack[45225778, Grateful Dead - Grateful Dead Complete - Eddy - 19670300 Jerry Garcia Interview @ 710 Ashbury Street, San Francisco, CA -
With that, are you using a third party metadata editor to create tags?
No, you don’t need to reinstall Roon. Since you’re making large changes to your local library though, I’d keep an eye to make sure you’re not running into duplicate items incase Roon may mis-identify some of the edits you’re making.
With your Arc error:
The protocols that configure port forwarding automatically are either not available or have failed. UPnP and NATPMP are not functioning in your router as Roon expects.
See if any of the below help you:
Turn on UPnP on your router and try to run Roon’s port forwarding test again.
Try to set up manual port forwarding in your router.
Make sure the IP/Port matches in any port forwarding rule you create.
Double-check to make sure you don’t have any VPNs, Firewalls, or other network filtering software blocking Roon.
Check if your modem is in Bridge mode.
Restart your network hardware and update firmware.
Q We’re seeing a fair amount of scanning around tags related to your tracks, have you made any updates in this area?
Yes, I moved many albums into folders and added new album, track and disc data.

iTunes

When I first installed Roon, ARC worked for weeks. I made no changes to the setup, and when the library connection started choking, ARC stopped working. I’m not technical and I have no idea about any of your router changes. I plugged it in when we got internet/cable and haven’t changed anything since. I don’t know how to access it the way you suggest.
If you navigate to Roon Settings → Library → Clean Up Library, do you see any items listed there? If so, can you create a Backup of your current database, run the clean up and see if that helps with the issue?
0 files in library clean up, ran backup - no change. Every time file scan gets to 43035 it spins and says connecting to roon server and starts over again - never resolves.
We’re seeing failures occur when Roon is attempting to import the same folder I’ve shared above:
Identifying album [Grateful Dead - Grateful Dead Complete - Eddy] with 12935 tracks
I’d test out setting all of your Grateful Dead content into its own folder, and see if you’re able to first import your other content outside of your GD collection, and see if it completes normally.
Sorry to hear you’re still running into trouble. From what we can see in the diagnostics, Roon is struggling to process your local library — the system is getting stuck trying to analyze it. When that happens, it can cause the entire process to lock up. There’s a built-in limit to how much Roon can analyze at once, and it looks like that limit is being exceeded here.
If you head to your Roon Settings>Library> and turn Background analysis speed to ‘Throttled’, do you see any difference in progress?
Background has been set to throttled for a few weeks and I’ve experimented with each core speed with no change. What is the built-in-limit? Are you suggesting I’d need to create multiple/separate library folders? What is my next step? Thanks.
Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup
Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:
Then once the new database is up-and-running, please try to split your music folder into at least two pieces (add them as separate storage locations in Roon, one at a time). Once the first storage location is finished imported, only then add the second storage location. Does that then allow Roon to properly ingest all the files?
I reinstalled core, split library in to 2 folders over the weekend. The library is still processing the files, but I’ll update when it it is complete - still 3/4 to go.
