It sounds like your Roon Remote and Roon Server are stuck in a “handshake” loop where they can see each other but can’t finalize the connection.
Since you’re on a Mac, please try these specific steps to refresh the system’s network permissions:
Restart Roon Server: Don’t just close the Roon window. Look at the Menu Bar at the top of your Mac screen (near the clock). Find the Roon icon, click it, and select “Quit Roon Server”. Wait 10 seconds, then relaunch Roon from your Applications folder.
Local Network Permissions: macOS has strict security settings. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Ensure the toggle for Roon is ON. If it’s already on, try toggling it OFF and back ON again to “wake up” the permission.
Full System Reboot: Restart your Mac entirely. This often clears out stuck background processes that prevent the “speaker icon” from finishing its connection.
If the icon continues to spin after these steps, could you let us know if your Mac is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Also, do you have any third-party firewalls or antivirus software (like Little Snitch or Norton) installed?
Give those restarts a try and let us know if you’re able to reach your library!
Network checked and okay. Mac Mini 10.15.8 intel dual core i5. No firewalls, or anti-virus software. Ethernet connection and Wifi connections have each been tried separately with the other off.
Steps attempted:
Restart > System Preferences > Sec. & Privacy > Files and Folders > RAATServer selected for access to files, folders, volumes > Full Disk Access folder selected for apps> toggle i/o select Roon & Roon server apps> Restart mac > Open, run from app folder “Connect to your Roon server” > Find My Roon looking for: spinning > nothing happens > tried: select Use this Mac > Server launches > Quit Roon and reopen Roon from application folder > Waiting for Roon Server doesn’t seem to be running> click Start Roon server: same not running message. > Click select a different Roon Server: This Mac ready > connect > Waiting for Roon Server “doesn’t seem to be running:” speaker spins for extended period. Tried connecting with Roon mobile app. > Sign in > You’re already signed in. Mac Mini. Also tried launching Roon from sever menu > goes directly to > This Mac Ready > try: Connect > spinning speaker. Also tried rebooting with Roon Server, Roon, and Raat off and then turning those on and launching Roon from application folder from scratch.
So after about 4-5 hours trying every strategy, no joy.
We’ve not seen any reply in the last week and this thread will shortly auto-close due to inactivity.
Our diagnostic servers don’t show any activity associated with the devices in question since you last posted, so we’re not confident this problem is resolved.
Please let us know if you’ve had a chance to access logs per the post above. Our team will require diagnostic logs from the RoonServer to move forward with the case. We’ll watch for your reply and thank you again for your patience.
