Roon server on Mac losing local audio stack daily (ref#0N09UG)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· EVERY DAY the roon server running on my mac loses the local audio stack. The mac is connected to an amp. All of that works fine. And on a reboot, the roon sees it. BUt then it loses it. I cant reboot the damn machine every day people. Really crappy experience.

Tell us about your home network

· None of this has anything to do with network or anything outside of the mac. The Mac is an M1 mini from 2020. Always running latest OS. The Roon auto updates. The Mac is connected via USB to a CA CX81 AMP. THe mac always knows the amp is connected and the amp is prevented from sleeping. It is the roon that is losing it.

Hello @jonah,

Welcome to the Roon Community! We’re happy to have you here, but apologize it’s an issue that has prompted your recent post. Since you’re running macOS, the behavior you’re seeing is consistent with the newer, stricter Local Network permission controls in the recent macOS releases.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Open macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
  2. Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both enabled
  3. Even if they are already enabled, please toggle them off and back on
  4. Fully quit Roon Server from the macOS menu bar / task bar
  5. Reboot your Mac
  6. After reboot, launch Roon again and check if the devices is avaliable again.

Once these permissions are refreshed and the system restarted, your audio devices should reappear.

Please let us know if the issue persists after these steps, and we’ll continue from there.

Hello @jonah,

Just checking in on this, were you able to try the Local Network permission steps we mentioned in macOS, including making sure both Roon and Roon Server are enabled, toggling them off and back on, then fully quitting Roon Server and rebooting your Mac? After that, did your audio devices come back in Roon? If the issue is still there, let us know what you’re seeing and we can keep going from there.

Please note, if we don’t hear back from you this thread may close automatically soon. If the thread auto-closes and you need further assistance, please submit a reopen support request via the technical support help form below and specify that the issue should be reopened. Thank you.
