Hello @ewtsao

Since you’re running macOS, the behavior you’re seeing is consistent with the newer, stricter Local Network permission controls in the recent macOS releases.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Open macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
  2. Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both enabled
  3. Even if they are already enabled, please toggle them off and back on
  4. Fully quit Roon Server from the macOS menu bar / task bar
  5. Reboot your Mac
  6. After reboot, launch Roon again and check if the devices is avaliable again.

Once these permissions are refreshed and the system restarted, your audio devices should reappear.

Please let us know if the issue persists after these steps, and we’ll continue from there.

Hi @Vadim,

I’ve tried exactly that but it didn’t help. I just reinstalled the RedOS for holo red, and plug them in the 1000M RJ45 port on my Dela S100/2 internet switch. Roon can detect it. But when I plugged in the 100M port (which has better sound quality), Roon detects it for 3 seconds and gone everytime I reboot my Holo Red.

I’m almost convinced that Roon only recognizes 1000M ports, but 100M is more than suffice to transfer audio data. Could you please advise how could I connect to 100M while still being able to be detected permanently by Roon? The sound is way better this way.

Evan

Hello @ewtsao

Thanks for the logs. They point to something specific.

Discovery works. What fails is the connection right after, and the pattern is unambiguous.

The Holo Red is always at 192.168.0.199, but the port its Roon Ready service listens on kept changing. Between 23:33 and 23:51 on 26 August it changed ten times:

40965 43609 33361 40915 34743 39871 35387 42121 37467 42283

That port changes only when the service restarts. So the Roon Ready software inside the Holo Red restarted roughly every two minutes for eighteen minutes. It happened again briefly at 20:35 on 27 August. Between those episodes it works and plays normally.

That is what you are seeing, as it appears for a few seconds and then vanishes.

On the port speed, briefly. Roon has no preference for gigabit, 100 Mbps is well beyond what RAAT needs, and the audio is bit-identical either way because every packet is verified in transit. So the data is not the question. What could matter is whether the link on that port stays up steadily, because a link that keeps renegotiating would make the Holo Red reinitialise and restart its service, which is exactly the pattern above.

Three things, in order.

  1. Please check the Holo Red’s own interface for an uptime or log, and tell us whether it shows restarts around 23:33 to 23:51 on 26 August. That confirms or rules out the restart theory in one look.
  2. Please turn Wi-Fi off on the Mac mini. It currently has two active addresses on your network, 192.168.0.16 and 192.168.0.18. That is not causing these episodes, but it is worth removing and it can cause other problems.
  3. If the Holo Red does show those restarts, please raise it with Holo Audio with those timestamps, and tell them it happens on the 100M port and not the 1000M one. They can see why their device is restarting; we cannot.

Your Holo Red has registered under two identities, Holo Red and Holo Red 2. Same physical unit, but its output identity changed, most likely when you reinstalled RedOS. Once this is settled we can help you remove the stale zone.

Hello @ewtsao,

Circling back on this, have you had a chance to check the Holo Red’s own uptime or logs to see whether it was restarting around 23:33 to 23:51 on 26 August? We also asked you to turn off Wi-Fi on the Mac mini since it currently shows two active addresses, 192.168.0.16 and 192.168.0.18, and to let us know if the Holo Red behaves differently on the 100M port versus the 1000M port. If you were able to confirm the restart pattern, that would be the key clue for the next step.

Hi, I tried to find the system log, but I couldn’t locate it either for Roon itself or Holo Red.

Hi @ewtsao,

Thanks for checking on the system log and for letting us know you could not find one in either Roon or Holo Red.

Were you able to try with Wi-Fi disabled on the Mac, and did the behavior stay the same? If you connect to the Holo Red IP in a web browser, based on the diagnostics we have it is 192.168.0.199, do you see any diagnostics tabs at all?

Please let us know what you find.

I didnt find any diagonostic tab on either Holo RedOS or Roon. But I found that whatever I restarted my Mac same issue occur-- Holo Red shows up in a second and gone. I’m using 1000m port this time. So, internet speed is not an issue. I dont know what happen and where to check the log to troubleshoot.
