For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.
· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.
Describe the issue
I loaded the Roon Software onto a Mac Mini, and made it my server connected to a DAC. When I go to the General screen, it says Roon Server, This Mac. I have full functionality on the device, (play music, song lyrics, etc), but I can't attach in from another device, or when I go to Find Roon OS, it just spins.
To clarify, RoonOS refers only to a dedicated Roon server on a headless device (either ROCK or Nucleus), so on a Mac Mini you can disregard the Find RoonOS widget in the Settings page.
If you’re running MacOS 15.1 or above (Sequoia), please double-check that you’ve granted Roon local network permissions in the System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network menu.
You might need to repeat this step after subsequent Roon or MacOS updates.
Please let us know if this helps and if not, please list any specific Roon Remotes/endpoints with which you’re still having connection issues. Thanks!
Can you please confirm the specific model of router you’re using in addition to the Verizon gateway?
If you have a TP-Link mesh setup, this might be a network isolation issue due to some multicast settings configuration.
We recommend checking the following in the router settings for the main router (whichever is providing the WiFi/ethernet; in this case, it seems to be the TP-Link, with the Verizon unit in Bridge Mode):
Disable access point/client (usually called AP isolation)
Ensure all nodes and clients are on the same LAN (same subnet). Here’s a guide for how to check if you’re not sure.
Double-check that guest mode is disabled for the mesh nodes
Disable IGMP snooping / multicast filtering
Temporarily disable fast roaming and band steering. These settings are sometimes intertwined
If possible, test by wiring an endpoint to the same mesh node or access point as your Mac Mini
If you have any iOS devices, please also set a Fixed Private WiFi Address. Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to your home network, and set "Private Wi-Fi Address" to Fixed.
Hi Conner, I have a pretty simple setup, diagram attached. No Mesh network, a couple of basic ethernet switches/splitters, and an additional Wi-Fi point.
The level of diagnostic and customization you have requested here is not realistic. Verizon provides me a router, how am I support to know how to implement the items here? I have setup tons of servers/routers/etc, if this is what’s needed to setup a Roon server, it’s a wonder anyone has gotten it to work. Also, the nodes and clients URL page you provided doesn’t exist.
As a simple test, if you temporarily disable one of your routers and force all devices to run from a single primary router, do you run into the same issues?
Another quick test if you haven’t yet - temporarily disable the macOS firewall on your server machine, and reboot everything. Let me know if run into the same issues.
Ok, I took the Netgear router totally off the network, it was just an additional Wi-Fi spot. I also checked the Firewall, it has never been on. Still cannon connect another device to the server.
Thanks for the update! We’ve been seeing a handful of reports of people still suffering from connection issues based on upstream outages with our DNS provider.
If you reboot your router and devices, are you able to connect normally now?
Diagnostics remain active for your account since this thread is still open. We’ve noticed that while the server shows recent activity, Roon Remotes haven’t registered as online in at least a week.
Are you still having issues with connectivity at this time? Please reach out if we can assist further. Keep in mind that topic threads will auto-close due to inactivity after a few days without any response from the OP.
