Roon Server on Mac Mini showing incorrect local machine in Audio settings (ref#5INHA4)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I have a roon server running on a mac mini, running sequoia 15.0. I am trying to connect with it on my other mac mini running Tahoe 26.0.1, but in the "Audio" settings panel, it shows This Mac as if it were my server and not the local machine. I am using the latest version of all Roon software.

· I am using an Eero system

Hello @Byron_Peterson,

Thanks for the screenshot — that helps.

If this screenshot was taken from a Roon Remote (not from the Mac running Roon Server itself), then what you’re seeing is expected behavior.
In Settings → Audio, Roon always lists audio devices connected to the local machine first, under “This Mac”, even when that Mac is acting only as a Remote and not as the Server.

To confirm what’s happening here, could you please share:

  1. A screenshot of Settings → General from the Mac you’re using as a Remote
  • This will show which machine Roon is currently connected to as the Roon Server
  1. (Optional but helpful) A screenshot of Settings → About, showing:
  • Roon Remote version
  • Roon Server name and IP

Additionally, since you’re running **macOS **, please check the following. Sequoia/Tahoe has tighter and less transparent local network permissions than previous macOS versions:

  • Go to macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
  • Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both allowed
  • If they’re already enabled, please toggle them off and back on
  • Then reboot the Mac and check again

This refreshes local network discovery permissions and often resolves cases where the Server/Remote distinction looks confusing.

Once we see the Settings → General screen, we can confirm everything definitively.

Hi @Byron_Peterson,

Please let us know if we can clarify any of what @vadim outlined above.

Each Roon Remote and Roon Bridge will have its own local RAATServer instance installed alongside Roon. These local RAATServer instances handle all the locally-connected hardware on that machine (in this case, anything directly controlled by Apple coreaudio and not your RoonServer).

So, “This Mac” (when viewed on your Tahoe Mac Mini) will show devices connected locally to the Tahoe omputer. The RAATServer instance installed on your Sequoia Mac Mini (the RoonServer machine) will control the speakers of the Sequoia Mac Mini.

I recommend taking a look through the Audio Device Setup section in this article. There are a few considerations that are specific to MacOS:
