Roon Server running on QNAP NAS872XT (ref#9QOQFH)

Hello @DNack

Hi, and sorry for the wait.

Taking your points in order.

The version on your iMac. The iMac is running Roon 2.0 build 1148, which is several years old, and a remote that far behind cannot connect to your server. The current production build is 1696. Please download a fresh copy and reinstall:

Roon ARC. Your diagnostics show that automatic port configuration is not available:

natpmp_autoconfig: NotFound
upnp_autoconfig: NotFound
multinat_autoconfig: Failed, "Network Trace Failed"
external_ip: router_external_ip: null

The useful detail is one you gave us back in August: ARC was working before the move to Docker, and your router has not changed since. So this is most likely the port rather than the router itself. If there was a forwarding rule in place before, it may now point at a port or an internal address the new server no longer uses.

Please do not change anything yet. Before you touch the router, we would rather see what is currently configured, so we can tell you the one thing to change instead of having you work through a list. Could you post screenshots of:

  1. Your router’s port forwarding page, showing any existing rules and the internal IP and port each one points to.
  2. Your router’s UPnP or NAT-PMP setting, showing whether it is on or off.
  3. The QNAP’s current IP address, from Control Panel, Network and Virtual Switch.

Also, so we have it in one place: the make and model of your modem and router, any additional network hardware such as extra routers or managed switches, and whether the modem is in Bridge mode or ports are forwarded on both devices.

@lei @connor @vadim @BlackJack @beka @noris @benjamin any updates? Please advise

I just followed the steps ABOVE and tried to re-install, but it DOESN’T WORK … see screenshot below it’s still stuck on 1148. I can download logs again if it would help you? …

this is unreal how poor this entire Roon experience has devolved into can we accelerate the fix here?

Hello @DNack

Your screenshot shows the Mac is connected to your Core, and the Core is healthy on the current build, 2.73 build 1696. What is left is that this Mac keeps opening an old copy of Roon.

Here is the full removal, using Finder only. Please follow it in order, including the parts that look redundant.

  1. Please quit Roon, and quit any Roon icon in the menu bar too.
  2. Please open Finder and press Command and F. Type Roon, click “This Mac”, and set the “Kind” filter to “Application”. Please post a screenshot of the results before deleting anything, so we can see what is on the Mac.
  3. Please drag every Roon application it lists to the Trash, then empty the Trash. Remove them, not replace them.
  4. In Finder, please press Shift, Command and G together, paste ~/Library and press Return. Please delete the folders named Roon and RAATServer if present.
  5. Please eject any mounted Roon installer volume in the Finder sidebar, then delete every Roon .dmg file in your Downloads folder. Old installers there are the most common reason a reinstall brings back the same version.
  6. Please drag the Roon icon out of the Dock. It can keep pointing at a copy that was already deleted.
  7. Please restart the Mac.
  8. Please download a fresh copy from https://download.roonlabs.net/builds/Roon.dmg.
  9. Please open the image, drag Roon into Applications, then eject the image. Before opening Roon, please click it once in Applications, press Command and I, and post a screenshot of the Version line. If it does not say 2.73, please stop there and tell us.
  10. Please open Roon from the Applications folder, not from the Dock or the installer window, then go to Settings, About and post a screenshot.

Once the Mac reads 2.73 build 1696 we will come straight back to Roon ARC.

@lei @connor @vadim @BlackJack @beka @noris @benjamin here is the screen shot for #2 above. I also completed the remaining steps thru #10.

Screenshot after ‘Roon’ and ‘RAATServer’ deleted [proof]

Restarting Mac now, will continue post after just wanted to post progress thru #7

Screenshot for #9. Not sure if current also posted screen shot from Remote.

It appears the remote is now on the correct version. Please tell me if my additional remote iPads will need to go thru similar re-install process. This main iMac pro is my ‘main’ remote, but I have several other in wall iPads and floating remotes.

I am ready for instructions for RoonArc please advise.

@lei @connor @vadim @BlackJack @beka @noris @benjamin good morning happy Monday.

Do you have any resolution for my Roon Arc? I use this app in all vehicles and would like to use in on the road this week please advise.

Hello @DNack

Thank you for working through the Mac steps. Your other iPads only need attention if they are also on an old version of Roon. Please check Settings, About on each one and update from the App Store if it does not show 2.73.

For Roon ARC, we are still missing the information we asked for in this post: Roon Server running on QNAP NAS872XT (ref#9QOQFH) - #68 by vadim

  1. Screenshots of your router’s port forwarding page, showing the internal IP and port of each rule.
  2. A screenshot of the router’s UPnP or NAT-PMP setting.
  3. The QNAP’s current IP address (Control Panel, Network and Virtual Switch).
  4. The make and model of your modem and router, any extra routers or managed switches, and whether the modem is in Bridge mode.

Without these we cannot see what the router is doing with the ports, so we have no fix to offer for ARC yet. As soon as they are posted we will tell you the specific change to make.

Also, please do not tag the whole team in each post. We see every update in this thread. What slows things down is a question that goes unanswered, because it has to be asked again.

@vadim I need specific instructions on how to gather each of the items #1 - #4 above. I have a Cable router that deliver’s internet from XFinity [Comcast], then that main router is connected via 10GBPS cable into my network switch which then is wired into my home wireless routers, do you need information for both?

Hello @DNack

Yes, please check both. If both your Xfinity gateway and one of your wireless routers are routing, ARC cannot reach the server, so we need to see what each one is set to.

Xfinity gateway

  1. Please check whether Bridge Mode is on. In a browser on your home network, open http://10.0.0.1, go to Gateway, then At a Glance, and post a screenshot. On newer gateways you first need to switch on Admin Tool access in the Xfinity app (WiFi, View WiFi equipment, Advanced settings, Admin Tool online access), and the login is admin with the password you create there: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access
  2. Please post screenshots of the gateway’s port forwarding rules. On most current gateways these are in the Xfinity app (WiFi, View WiFi equipment, Advanced Settings, Port forwarding): https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfi-port-forwarding

Each wireless router

  1. Please post screenshots of its port forwarding and UPnP or NAT-PMP settings, plus the make and model from the sticker. If the router has a Router mode or Access Point mode setting, please tell us which one it is on. The exact menu names differ by brand, so searching the model name with “port forwarding” or “UPnP” on the maker’s support site usually finds the steps.

QNAP

  1. Please post a screenshot of the QNAP’s IP address from Control Panel, then Network and Virtual Switch.

Please hide or crop out any Wi-Fi or admin passwords before posting. If you cannot find a page, post the make and model of the device and we will point you to the exact menu.

Useful background:

Hi @DNack, Vadim just replied to your latest follow-up above, so please take a look when you get a chance.

Thank you for working through all of this with us so carefully. We want to help you get Roon working the way you need.

One small note. There’s no need to tag staff members when you post here. Our whole team gets notified as soon as you reply to this thread. If an answer sometimes takes a bit longer, it’s because we’re working through the queue in order, or because your question needs a specific technician to look at it.

We’ll keep working with you here, and we hope to have your system running as intended soon.

@vadim & co … please see attached screenshots, what else do you need? I really don’t want to create a security breach so can you download and then anonymize or delete these screen shots? What else will you need?

Hello @DNack,

Thank you for the screenshots. We have hidden the photo of the label on the bottom of your gateway, because it shows the default Wi-Fi name and password. If you still use that password for any Wi-Fi network, please change it.

From the other screenshots we can see that your gateway is an Xfinity XB7 and that Bridge Mode is off, so the gateway is doing the routing. We still need the following:

  1. Please post a screenshot of the gateway’s port forwarding rules. You can find them in the Xfinity app (WiFi, View WiFi equipment, Advanced Settings, Port forwarding), or on the gateway’s admin page at http://10.0.0.1 under Advanced.
  2. Please post the make and model of each wireless router behind the gateway, and tell us whether each one is set to Router mode or Access Point mode.
  3. Please post a screenshot of the QNAP’s IP address from Control Panel, then Network and Virtual Switch.

If a wireless router is in Router mode, we will also need its port forwarding and UPnP settings. If you cannot find a page, please tell us the model and we will point you to the exact menu.

@vadim There’s only 3 WAPs but they’re not routing, do we still need this data you are requesting? I will get it just clarifying.

Hello @DNack

If they do not have the DHCP server active and are not handling the networking, they are not affecting ARC reachability.
