Remote: Roon version 2.0 build 1353 production 64bit (newest version).
Server: Roon Server version 2.0 build 1353 production (newest version).
Information about the versions: up to a few weeks ago I had just Roon. On this machine only. No ARC or remotes. I got a message within Roon that an update was available and I installed it at once. That update gave me the separate Roon Remote and Roon Server (on this machine). All this is as expected.
Browser: Firefox.
Music: some local audio files on this pc and some on a second Windows pc in the network.
Network: all is cable CAT6. No wifi.
Description of Issue
The Roon server launches at start-up of the pc. So, there is an icon in the system tray. This is normal.
I know how long it takes for the server to check all music files. I wait much longer. Now I click on the Roon remote icon. The remote starts. This is normal. However: once in a while a second icon appears in the system tray, indicating that a Server is started also. It happens about once in every 5 times I start Roon Remote.
If the error happens, I get 2 server icons in the system tray.
When I rightclick on the icons, I see the status going from started to not responding to error in various ways. One icon gives errors but shows running most of the times. IMHO this is the Server that was running before.
If I click “quit” in the icon of the server that seems to fail, the Remote also quits (most of the times).
I have uninstalled Roon and reinstalled it, using the original download from the website. This has no effect.
I would be glad if Roon would look into this.

Hello @RSound !
Thank you for reporting!
We’ve inspected your logs and found it’s a bit weird.
To make further investigation possible, we need additional logs from your side.
You may find them here: C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\RoonGoer
Please zip that RoonGoer folder and share it with us here.
It is possible there is a cause for this “weirdness” you detected. Because a few months ago I experienced some troubles with a voucher. And with another voucher.
I decided to take the safest way: I uninstalled Roon completely. This time I uninstalled the part “Settings and Databases” also. After that I rebooted my pc. Just to be sure.
I downloaded the software fresh from your website.
Installed.
Started Roon. This time I had to log in (this happened probably because I deleted the Settings and Databases).
All seems correct now. FYI: it seems to me that the starting-up process (after I click on “Roon Remote”) is much more the same each time. Seems more stable than before.
Also I tried some “crazy stuff” like starting Roon Remote when it is already running. Nothing happens.
So all seems OK now. Thank you very much.
If something comes up I will post it here.
[hmmm something DID come up. However for several reasons I prefer not to enter texts in fora anymore. Main reason: all AI industry going in a totally irresponsible way. And I do not like that they can read and use and tap my texts, my thoughts, my conclusions. Also AI has the potential to blow up in everybody’s face with very large damage, because it is one very powerful experiment. (C) R.Sound. We can talk further in private mode. Am I exaggerating? No.
Second remark: there was 1 month time before this topic was going to be closed. Yet I encountered that the topic was closed suddenly. But, in view of my first remark: all the better]
[dec 2, 2023: just a small update.
The remark of Roon suggested to me it is a problem in my PC.
As I wrote earlier I re-installed Roon completely.
I added a little music.
However the problem was not gone.
So:
I removed ReadyBoost. This is a true and tested Windows function. However in the past I noticed some problems sometimes.
I changed the automatic Power Down of the hard drive into “never power down”. The drive is a classic spinning one. I have noticed in the past and on another PC: Power Down can cause corrupted files. If the software or the OS or both do not behave as they should. I saw corruption in some of the log files. Can Roon handle the Powering Down of a hard drive correctly? Perhaps a slow drive is difficult? Just a modest suggestion.
Up to now: no problems.]
[dec 14: alas. The problem has become less severe but is not completely gone]
[dec 28: installed the update a week ago. After that, Roon is as stable as a rock. @Andrew.v thank you. ]
