I have a Roon-ready Denon AVR (VR-S670H), which my Roon server has seen in the past, but which occasionally disappears from the list of available audio outputs:
This is the list at the moment, with no Denon in sight. As I said, in the past I have sometimes seen, and sent audio to, my Denon, but today is one of those days it just doesn’t show up. From my Mac I can see that the Denon is connected to my router, and I can ping it:
…but my Roon Server doesn’t see it.
I found a thread here a while ago that advised deleting and recreating my RAATServer directory, which has worked a few times to get my AVR to reappear on the Roon Server, but lately that has stopped working.
Any suggestions to get Roon to see my powered-on, ping-able, Roon Ready(?) AVR?
Thanks for reaching out. We enabled diagnostics and according to the logging, Roon can see the Denon, but the connection to its RAAT service is failing with “No route to host.”
A few targeted things to check next:
- Is your Roon Server connected by Ethernet or WiFi, and is it on the same subnet as the Denon?
- Do you have any mesh nodes, managed switches, VLANs, or guest network features in between the server and AVR?
- If the Denon is on WiFi, can you temporarily connect it by Ethernet and see whether it appears in Roon?
- Please reboot the AVR, your router, and the Roon Server, then check whether the Denon reappears in the audio device list.
Reply with what you find, especially how the Roon Server is connected and whether the Denon is on the same network segment.

Yes, there is only one subnet in my home.

No, my home network couldn’t be simpler.
If the Denon is on WiFi, can you temporarily connect it by Ethernet and see whether it appears in Roon?
Ethernet is not available in my condominium, I can’t go into the walls, so everything is on wifi. It is quite fast, at least 200 mbs, usually more, and has worked fine for everything, even for Roon, in the past.
I don’t have an exact date for when Roon stopped seeing my AVR, but both Denon and Roon have updated their apps in last few months, and my Roon server has stopped seeing the AVR.
- Please reboot the AVR, your router, and the Roon Server, then check whether the Denon reappears in the audio device list.
I’ve done this multiple times, with no change, recently. Months ago, Roon would usually not see the Denon AVR if it had been powered off (which happens daily), and I would have to restart the AVR, delete my RAATServer directory, then restart all Roon services, at which point Roon would see the AVR again and I could send Roon output to it. When it worked, it was great, but all of that restarting and deleting was kind of a pain in the neck. Now, as above, even this process no longer works.

Since you’re running macOS, the behavior you’re seeing is consistent with the newer, stricter Local Network permission controls in the recent macOS releases.
Please try the following steps:
- Open macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
- Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both enabled
- Even if they are already enabled, please toggle them off and back on
- Fully quit Roon Server from the macOS menu bar / task bar
- Reboot your Mac
- After reboot, launch Roon again and check if the devices is avaliable again.
Once these permissions are refreshed and the system restarted, your audio devices should reappear.
Please let us know if the issue persists after these steps, and we’ll continue from there.

Thanks for your reply. These had been enabled previously, but as you suspected, these settings had become unchecked at some point. Apple being “helpful”, I suppose.
I re-enabled those, restarted the Mac (which is basically a server in my home, and is seldom rebooted), and at first the Denon still wasn’t visible to Roon, though my two Apple TVs, which had also disappeared from Roon, did pop back up.
A power cycle of the Denon, and Roon can see it once again.

Glad to hear it’s resolved. A power cycle of the Denon brought it back into Roon after the Local Network permissions were re-enabled and the Mac was restarted. We’ll go ahead and mark this thread for closure, and enjoy your Roon experience.
