Describe the issue

Not able to update Roon Server software on Rhein Z1

Describe your network setup

wired ethernet

I’m currently on Version 2.0 (build 1480). I always get a message saying that I can upgrade, but whenever I initiate, it seems to start, as I lose connection to Roon on my ipad, but after some time and Roon restarts, the upgrade doesn’t look like it completed as the message to upgrade and the same version of software remains.

Hi @Terrance_Wong,

Thank you for your post. Diagnostics from RoonServer show the machine pinging the update server and acknowledging the 1517 build is available for download. We don’t see the server initiating the download and install. The disconnection event you’ve mentioned with the iPad may occur before the server receives the update instruction from the remote.

If you haven’t already, try initiating the update on the server from another Roon controller.

  • Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page or using the instructions specific to your RoonServer machine from SilentAngel: https://silentangel.com/files/How_to_Use_Roon_Server_On_Z1-1.pdf
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Let us know if this helps. Thanks!

How do I access my RoonServer directory on my Z1?

Hi @Terrance_Wong ,

It looks like you should be able to reinstall Roon Server by resetting the database and settings on their web interface:

Also, please note that the Z1 is not an authorized Roon Server, if the database reset doesn’t solve the issue, we suggest reaching out directly to Rhein for further assistance.
