Hello @Scott_Donian,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.

Based on your description, it seems you installed a new Roon server directly on the Streamplayer III and are looking to switch to it.

Could you kindly clarify if you have tried disconnecting your current server under Roon → Settings → General, and then attempting to connect to the new one?

Looking forward to your reply!

Vadim, thanks. Yes, I did disconnect (getting into Roon using a Server on my Mac mini). I am getting this (picture) on the Roon app with the splayer server needing a significant update, even though I installed a new version via Easy Installer. I am stumped.

Hi @Scott_Donian,
I activated diagnostics on your splayer server but the request wasn’t able to complete. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!

Thanks, Daniel. Logs uploaded.

Hi @Scott_Donian ,

Can you please confirm which Easy Installer method you used to install the Streamplayer? It looks like you are running stable branch on that Streamplayer, and stable has been deprecated a long time ago and the production branch has replaced it. Have you by ay chance reached out to the Streamplayer support yet regarding this?

Retired IIRC – see also:

I think it was: $ sudo ./roonserver-installer-linuxx64.sh
Unfortunately Salk Sound closed shop last year. However, I did contact Jim Salk and he thinks the Arch Linux should be updated, but shouldn’t be causing the trouble.
Can I do something to reinstall Roon correctly?
Thanks!

Download the current installer first before issuing the commend from above. See also:

Thanks, BlackJack. That’s what I had done. Downloaded. Then installed. And it said it was installed (including noting that it had overwritten an older install). So I am stumped!

Your install is so old – much has changed in the 5 years since then. Maybe overwriting doesn’t work properly and a complete purge and fresh start is needed. I hope Roon Labs can clarify this.

I’m guessing that is the solution. There is a “Restore Default” option on the Streamplayer interface. Not sure what it does. I’ve emailed Jim Salk to find out. If you have any sage words, I’m all ears!

I assume that this option is not going to help you as it would just restore the same old or an even older version of Roon Server. What I mean is (try to) uninstall Roon Server using the shell script (see the documentation I linked above), then check manually if there are still remains (folders, start scripts) around and purge them manually if necessary, then start installing again. Make sure the base system is updated (see the other thread I linked for the experience and commands used by another user) or a current Roon Server may not be able to work properly.

I see what you mean. Thanks.

Hi @Scott_Donian,

Thanks for all the additional information - @BlackJack is absolutely steering you in the right direction with next steps. Let us know what Jim follows up with as well.

Thank you! :raised_hands:

Will do. Thanks, Benjamin (and the rest of the good folks on Roon’s Tech Support Staff). I miss the music!!!

FINALLY! Jim Salk advised me to NOT use the Easy Installer for the Streamplayer (Linux), but to do a manual install, instead (he suspects the former might not be working well with the Arch Linux version on the machine that is also pretty old). I did it. And I’m back up in musical bliss! (All things considered, sooner, rather than later, I am going to switch out that drive for an SSD, with Linux updated, etc.) Many thanks to Roon Tech Supp Staff and a shoutout to BlackJack for their helpful advise!
