Roon Server won't start after update on macOS 12.7.6 (ref#YRU51X)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· Roon Server won't start after update — stuck on "Waiting for your Roon Server" (late-2014 Mac Mini, macOS 12.7.6)

Tell us about your home network

· After a recent Roon update, my Roon Server no longer starts. The Mac Mini that runs the Server sits on the "Waiting for your Roon Server" screen and never connects. No remote on my network can find the Server either, because the Server itself isn't coming up.

Roon Server machine: Mac Mini (Late 2014), Intel, macOS 12.7.6 Monterey, 8 GB RAM. This Mac Mini has been my Roon Server/Core for a long time with no prior issues.

Library: Large local library (tens of thousands of tracks) on external drives connected to the Mac Mini via USB. Roon database is on the Mac Mini's internal SSD.

Audio: Ayre QB-9 DSD, connected by USB to the Mac Mini.

Network: All wired. This is not a remote-discovery problem — the Server process is not running on the Mac Mini itself.

Already tried:

Full restart of the Mac Mini at least 5 times — Server still fails to start and returns to "Waiting for your Roon Server" each time.
Confirmed macOS is 12.7.6, which meets the current macOS 12+ minimum for Roon Server.
Have not reinstalled or reset anything, and have not touched my database.

What I need: Please review my Server logs and tell me why the Server won't start — specifically whether this is a resource/hardware limitation on the late-2014 Mac Mini following the new system requirements, or something a clean reinstall would resolve. I'd like to avoid changes that could risk my library until I understand the cause. My zipped Server logs are attached.

Three days ago there was an update that caused this: Roon 2.71 and ARC 1.81 are Live!

But it was fixed in another update yesterday. Did you update to this one, too?

If updating in Roon doesn’t work, download and install the update from the Roon website: Download Roon - Mac, Windows, iOS & Android Apps | Free Download

Hi @Jefferson_Douglas1,

Please update to the hotfix (Roon version 2.71 1683) on the affected Mac and let us know if you’re still experiencing the problem.

Diagnostics indicate this machine is still running a long-outdated built, 1629. You might need to uninstall and reinstall Roon to force the most recent update. This won’t affect your Roon library or database.

We’ll watch for your reply. Thank you!

Thanks for the fast response everyone! I’m a little nervous doing the uninstall first. Can I just try downloading and installing?

Hi guys; Thanks for all the help so far. I downloaded the hotfix and instead of overwriting the old Roon I kept the old one and selected “Keep Both” instead of overwriting the old copy. This was probably a mistake, as I’m still getting the same error. Should I Uninstall both of these copies and then do a fresh download. Can yall confirm this is the approach to take? I was trying to be cautions and I think I made it worse

Yes, that’s the cleanest path forwards.

Also, after uninstalling re-boot the Mac before starting to reinstall.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the help. I finally got Roon to launch, and it seems to be working fine. The Uninstall > Reboot > Install > Reboot sequence did the trick! Appreciate all the support & Feedback
