What’s happening?
· I'm noticing slowness when using the Roon App or Roon ARC
Describe the issue
Roon is very slow today, basic search and navigation is taking a long time. When using the search (magnifying glass), I've been getting "can't connect to Roon search"
Describe your network setup
Frontier 1Gb fiber, TPlink routers and switches and wifi. I haven't made any changes to the network, and everything else other than Roon is working flawlessly.
Hey @HeavyMetalDrummer,
Thanks for taking the time to share another report!
Have you stopped Roon Server, and given both your server machine and router a reboot recently? After that, as a next step, it’d be good to again test if your local library is potentially affecting performance. Could you first make a fresh backup, and then see if disabling your watched folders changes performance at all?
Afterward, if issues persist, could you please share a more specific date, time, and search query that resulted in poor performance?
We’ll be on standby for your reply, thank you!
Yes, I rebooted my Nucleus+ earlier today and it made no difference. I just disabled my watched folder and it was much faster with just my Qobuz and Tidal content.
For reference, I have a very small amount of Qobuz/Tidal content, 500 albums, 7000+ tracks. My local library is very large: 1000+ Artists, 5600+ Albums, 96000+ tracks.
All local files are on the internal SSD in the Nucleus and well organized in category/artist/album/track structure. Several artists with over 1000 tracks, including one with 13,000 tracks. Large number of concert recordings from a small number of artists - 791 albums and >17,000 tracks are unidentified, but have detailed metadata in the files. They are very well organized using standard artist/album/track.
I noticed today that things had gotten very slow. For example, I just searched in the top right for “Elvis Costello” and it took about a minute to process. I clicked on the Elvis Costello artist and it took 1 minute+ to get to the artist page and show all the albums. I selected the album “The River In Reverse”, it took more than 30 seconds to bring up the album page with all the tracks. I clicked Play, it took over a minute to start playing. Something is seriously wrong.
I am currently playing the album Painted From Memory to a Sonos zone. It stopped playing after “Toledo”, and took about 30 seconds to load the next track “I Still Have That Other Girl”, and then it got stuck on pause. I had to hit play/pause a couple of time before it started to play.
And now again, it took almost a minute to load “Tears at the Birthday Party” after playing “This House is Empty Now”, and it is stayed stuck on pause for about a minute and then started to play. The pausing between tracks while playing to Sonos used to happen a lot (but never this bad), and then it went away for a while. Now it seems to be occurring more and more, and today has been the worst of it.
A little while longer, while playing the album Momofuku, track Turpentine, I transferred from one Sonos zone to another. It stopped playing immediately, and took about a minute to start playing on the zone I transferred to.
Hey @HeavyMetalDrummer,
Thanks for the updates! Our team will need to take a closer look into your case, so I don’t have any immediate next steps.
While we troubleshoot, could you please ensure a direct ethernet connection from your Nucleus to your router, and try to remove wifi from your connections as much as possible? It would be good to rule out any potential network interruptions in the meantime. Thank you!
Seems like the issue has magically gone away, and Roon is now performing as it was before. Its not lightning fast (it never was), but searching, navigating and playing tracks is ok again.
Well, Roon is back to behaving badly again… Its taking forever to search for an artist page and to select and album. A core reboot helped significantly, but it’s still sluggish.
Hey @HeavyMetalDrummer,
Thanks for the update! Based on a recent diagnostic report, it looks like your Roon Server is quite busy indexing your local library. Do you have background and on-demand audio analysis active via your Roon Settings>Library
If you temporarily disable your local library, and only use Tidal, how does performance feel?
