Is there any change in behavior if you try to navigate to Roon Settings -> Library and set both Background and On-Demand Audio Analysis to Throttled or Off?
· No, the issue is still the same
Does the issue happen on multiple Roon Remotes (controllers) or just one?
· Issue happens on multiple remotes
Router Domain Name System (DNS) change
· I don't know how to do this
What is the operating system of your Roon Server host machine?
· Nucleus
Which model Nucleus do you have?
· Nucleus Rev B
Timestamp of issue occurrences
· That I can´t tell you, because today I had problems through almost all the time. But as I said before I have the logs and I can send them to you.
Describe the issue
Over the past few weeks, I can't be more precise, but Roon has become increasingly slow to respond to commands. Sometimes it also freezes for seconds while playing music, and today it even stopped recognizing my Moon player for a while. I have a zip file with server logs that I can send if it's helpful.
Describe your network setup
My ISP is Vodafone.pt. The router is a Huawei and I have a 1 Gigabit speed plan. All the components I use are connected via Ethernet cable. The network is working perfectly.
We noticed that you have roughly 15,000 tracks in your library, and your Nucleus currently has 4GB of RAM. This is approaching the limit for a library of this size.
We reviewed a diagnostics report from your machine and can see that during peak loads, your Nucleus is using roughly 75-85% of its available RAM, which can certainly cause some slowness.
Because of this, we recommend considering a RAM upgrade for your Nucleus. If you do not plan on expanding your library beyond 100,000 tracks, adding another 4GB of RAM should be sufficient for your needs.
After following the link to the Nucleus SSD and RAM Upgrades, I could find a suggestion to install Crucial Memória RAM 8GB DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 Laptop CT8G4SFRA266 from Amazon.
As you said 4 Gb should be enough for me, I don´t know if I can install this 8Gb RAM or if you have any other suggestion. I’m not an it expert, so I don’t know What type of RAM is compatible with my Nucleus. It would be nice if I could buy it from an European shop to avoid further taxes.
yes, your selection “Crucial Memória RAM 8GB DDR4 2666 MHz CL19 Laptop CT8G4SFRA266” will work on your Nucleus, and you can combine it with another 4 GB stick already in your nucleus.
Thanks for the reply! Yes, you can technically use the Kingston KVR24S17S8/4 for a RAM upgrade in a Roon Nucleus, but it’s important to understand how it differs from the recommended module @alex_h mentioned above.
Will it work?
In most cases, yes. DDR4 RAM is backward compatible. If you install the 2400MHz module into a system that only supports 2133MHz, it will automatically “downclock” to 2133MHz to match the motherboard’s limitations.
However, there are two reasons why the KVR21S15S8/4 is technically the better choice for your specific device:
Lower Latency: The 2133MHz module has a lower CAS latency (CL15) compared to the 2400MHz module (CL17). At the same 2133MHz operating speed, the CL15 module is slightly more efficient.
If you already have the KVR24S17S8/4: You can likely use it without issues; it will just run at the slower 2133MHz speed.
If you are buying new: Stick with the Kingston KVR21S15S8/4 if you can. It matches the Roon requirements perfectly and offers better timings for that specific frequency.
The problem is related with the purchase process, because I couldn’t find the modules that you suggest in my continent. They are presently out of stock at the European shops, and I did search a lot. I could only find them in the US, where I have to pay too much for shipping and customs…
So, I think I’m gonna take the risk with the module I told you, if it’s compatible. Hope I don’t regret.
Upon a more detailed review, we discovered that your Nucleus is using more RAM than expected during intensive processes.
We have brought this to the attention of our R&D team for further investigation. For now, please hold off on purchasing a RAM upgrade until we provide our next update.
Thank you for your understanding. To help us look into this, could you please clarify: do you experience this slowness constantly, or only at specific times, such as after adding a large playlist or album to your library?
