Roon software freezes on MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma (ref#XSC0JB)

What best describes your playback issue?

· Music doesn't start when I press "Play"

What type of Zone is affected by this problem?

· *Directly-connected Zones* are affected.

Does the issue affect all file formats?

· The issue affects *multiple/all* file formats.

Does the issue happen with local library music, streaming service music, or both?

· *Both streaming and local* *library* music are affected.

Do you encounter any playback errors with the "System Output" Zone?

· The System Output has *no problem*, it's only my other Zone.

How is the affected Zone connected to your RoonServer machine?

· Network - WiFi

Which network audio protocol is the Zone using with Roon?

· RoonReady

Does the device show up at all in Roon Settings -> Audio?

· No, it does not show up there

Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?

· The device has no problems with another audio source

Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?

· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains

If the device has multiple output options, do the other options work as expected?

· Only one output type is affected while the other output type works as expected

Is the device using the latest firmware as per the manufacturer?

· Firmware is up-to-date but the issue remains

What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?

· Cable to the internet on equipment which uses music. Like shown on the picture below, it looks like normal, but there is no response when trying to do something.

Hi.

I am having a problem again where my ROOM software starts freezing, and the only thing I can do is restarting my Mac.

I really don`t understand why this is happening. I removed ALL ROON things I had on my Mac, downloaded again and everything was fine up until a few days after i downloaded the new one, when it started freezing again.

I have downloaded the latest version on ROON.

I have a 1 year old MacBook Pro with macOS Sonoma version 14.6.1.

Could it be a Mac problem?

All audio connected with cables, while my Mac uses wireless. Tidal & Spotify works without any problems at all, while ROON freezes.

Thanks for taking the time to write in! Sorry to hear about your Mac issues. As a first step, let’s review the firewall settings on the Mac, and confirm that Roon is listed as a proper exception. Take a look at this article to see if it aligns with what’s required on Roon’s side:

(You can also temporarily disable this firewall and see if you experience the same issues.)

Good morning.

Like I have said before, I have to restart my Mac to get my Roon software working again. I re-started this morning and Roon works fine. I checked out the firewall and it did not influence my Roon software.
I will come back to you guys where the Roon software freezes, or accept that I have to restart my Mac. Like I have said before, both Tidal and Spotify works fine all the time.

Thanks for your message. If you can please let us know the exact local time + date of the next freeze, we can then enable diagnostics mode for your account and check the logs to see if there’s any further clues.
