Roon stops playing after a few seconds

Roon Core Machine: NUC8i5BEH
Networking Gear & Setup Details: Eero pro 6 mesh, all devices connected through ethernet, no VPN
Connected Audio Devices: NAD T758v3i, Bluesound Node 2i (2), NODE130, Cambridge Audio CXNv2
Number of Tracks in Library: ~750 albums (99% from Tidal)

Description of Issue: Tracks stop playing after 2-3 seconds. The issue happens intermittently and is present whether I stream to one device or multiple grouped devices. At times, each playlist or Roon radio track will stop after 2-3 seconds. All devices have current firmware. I have tried network, Roon, and device reboots and a custom DNS. This issue has been evident for 1-2 weeks.

Does anyone have experience with this? Suggestions? @support?

Still hoping to get some assistance with this, but in the meantime, I found that the problem goes away when I switch from Tidal to Qobuz. Any suggestions for getting Tidal to work correctly again?

Looks like I’m conversing with myself here, but for anyone with similar issues, I wanted to post once again because I think I resolved the issue by resetting Roon Database and Settings and reinstalling Roon OS through the system settings page. After 90m, I’ve had no unwanted pauses. I’ll report back if the issue returns.

Hey @JAM,

Ben with the support team here, thanks for writing in and for your status updates! Apologies for the delay in getting to your thread as well, we’re a small team and actively working through each thread as quickly as we can!

I was able to pull a fresh core diagnostic from your NUC, and see quite a few network connectivity errors. Mostly relating to the handshake required between your core and network. Let me know how things run over the next few days and if additional troubleshooting is needed.

Thanks! :+1:

Thank you for the response, Ben. Is there anything I can do about the network connectivity errors? If there’s some sort of obstacle to Roon efficiency, I’d like to address it. I’m using Ethernet for my NUC and all streaming devices so I’m confused about the connectivity issues.

Hi @jam

I’m just a fellow Roon user.

Is your Core and endpoints connected via the same mesh hub or on different mesh hubs?

Are your mesh hubs using WiFi or wired for the backhaul?

Hi Menzies—the core and endpoints are connected to a switch, which is connected to one mesh hub. The other mesh hub I have in the house is connected through Ethernet, too. I don’t have any Roon streaming devices connected to it. It’s just for Wi-Fi. I’m not sure if I answered your questions, so please let me know if I misunderstood something.

You’re setup as I would do it.

The mesh hub with the switch connected. Is this the one connected to your internet service providers box?

What switch are you using?

Based on all endpoints experiencing the same issue, have you tried replacing the ethernet cable between core and switch? @benjamin mentioned network related errors.

Yes, the hub is connected to my modem and also to the switch, a TP Link 24 port. I haven’t tried a different internet cable. I’ll give that a go and hopefully @benjamin will have some additional suggestions based on the errors in the logs. Thank you for your help.

One last recommendation I can think of you trying, more to eliminate a few things.

Connect your core to your main mesh hub and also one of your endpoints direct to the main mesh hub (doing away with the switch for now). See if that helps. Could be a switch issue (unlikely but not impossible).
