Hello @David_Ratcliff, and welcome back to the community!

I completely understand how frustrating it is to have your music unexpectedly interrupted just because you opened or closed your AirPods case.

To be completely candid, this is a current limitation tied directly to how Apple’s operating systems (iOS and macOS) handle Bluetooth audio devices. Here is exactly what is happening behind the scenes:

When you open or close your AirPods, the operating system detects a change in your available audio devices and broadcasts a global “Media Interruption” or “Pause” command to whatever application is currently active. Because the Roon Remote app is designed to respect your device’s native media controls, it intercepts this system-wide command and stops playback.

From Roon’s perspective, the operating system’s signal that the AirPods case was opened looks absolutely identical to someone physically pressing a “Play/Pause” button. At this time, there is no way for Roon to distinguish between the two events and ignore the AirPods.

While we cannot currently bypass the operating system’s media routing behavior, I would recommend creating a thread into our Feedback > Feature Suggestions category.

Thanks I understand. It is counter intuitive for me as I was not streaming from my phone or laptop but I realise that Roon is open as I use them as remotes. As soon as I close Roon on these two devices it does not happen as you would expect. So I have a work around. Thanks
