Hello @Clark_West

Since you’re running macOS, the behavior you’re seeing is consistent with the newer, stricter Local Network permission controls in the recent macOS releases.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Open macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
  2. Make sure Roon and Roon Server are both enabled
  3. Even if they are already enabled, please toggle them off and back on
  4. Fully quit Roon Server from the macOS menu bar / task bar
  5. Reboot your Mac
  6. After reboot, launch Roon again and check if the devices is avaliable again.

Once these permissions are refreshed and the system restarted, your audio devices should reappear.

Please let us know if the issue persists after these steps, and we’ll continue from there.

I don’t see Roon Server in my system settings local network

I am still unable to open Roon and would appreciate help very much.

You did look in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network ?

This is, not „system settings local network“!

If so, which macOS version are you using?

I am using Tahoe 26.4.1. yes, I went into privacy and security and local network. Roon shows up there, but not Roon Server

Ok. It seems that the Roon Server isn’t running. At least the Roon icon isn’t visible in the Mac menu bar where it should be:

If you start the Activity Monitor in macOS, can you find the Roon Server process?

If not, you can start it separately: Go to Finder > Applications, find the Roon app and right-click it to open the context menu, click Show Package Contents in the menu, go to the Contents folder. You should find the Roon Server launcher there.

Then go to the Roon icon that should now be visible on the menu bar. Click it and make sure that Launch at Startup is checked.

If it still doesn’t work, check the Privacy & Security setting again.

If it still doesn’t work, I’d try reinstalling the Roon app from Roon’s download page

I already tried reinstalling the roon app from their download page and it didn’t work.

And did you check the Activity Monitor for the presence of a running RoonServer? And did you try starting it explicitly from Finder > Applications as I described?

yes and that didn’t work

Once again: Before and after you start the RoonServer from the Finder, is there a RoonServer process listed in Activity Monitor, respectively?

yes there is

That’s very strange, given the absence of its icon on the menu bar. Did you try to kill it from the Activity Monitor and then restart it from the Finder? (Or reboot the Mac).

And just to be sure, you aren’t running any macOS extension to hide stuff on menu bar?

If it doesn’t show up on the menu bar after trying all this, I suppose we’ll have to wait for official support to come to the thread.

yes I tried what you suggested and am having no luck.

the Roon icon is now showing in the menu bar but I still can’t get into Roon. I just get the icon on my screen.

At least that’s something. Do you now have RoonServer listed in the local network permissions under Privacy & Security?

yes it is showing up there

Progress as well. Did you try toggling both Roon and Roon Server off and back on?

yes, that doesn’t do anything

Did you ever reboot the Mac in the meantime? Worth trying, I guess, and then toggling the switches one more time. (Before rebooting, ensure that „Launch on startup“ is checked in the Roon icon‘s menu in the menu bar. And verify that the icon is still there after the reboot)

And I notice that the problem started before the most recent update, so it was still build 1646 then:

I know you later reinstalled Roon, but was this already the new update that was released on the 27th, build 1653? I.e., does it show 1653 in this „connect“ screen now? If not, I’d first download and install the latest update. Then check the menu bar icon as described above, reboot, verify that the icon is still there, toggle the switches again.

If this doesn’t help, I’m officially out of ideas and we’ll have to wait for official support or some other user with better ideas.
