Thanks for writing in! Based on your account admin, it looks like your Roon Server instance running on your iMac hasn’t connected with our servers in roughly two weeks.
Can you confirm that ‘Roon Server’ is running, or just Roon? Have you rebooted your Mac and tested to see if you’re able to start Roon Server? It may also be helpful to enable ‘Open at Login’ :
Lastly, let’s see if refreshing your Roon Server database may help - but only do this if you have a recently saved backup available.
Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database (in your case, you’ll need to skip this step and use a recently saved backup)
That sounds about right. Haven’t listened to my system for a few weeks. Inactivity on my account by itself shouldn’t cause a problem though, should it?
Activity monitor shows Roon - not Roon Server - running.
I made an explicit backup a LONG time ago. I have nothing recent unless I set up an automatic, periodic backup routine at some point. I don’t necessarily remember doing that, however!
I’m using Mac OS 15.3.1 (24D70). I just upgraded, but the problem was occurring before that, too.
Here’s what my screen looks like immediately after startup. Tidal auto-loads and runs fine (that’s the Tidal window behind the Roon window), but Roon is stuck.
Another screen shot showing Activity Monitor (has Roon entry, NOT Roon Server. Also, various Tidal-related entries) and also showing the file structure where my Roon backups live. Tons of machine-generated nested folders that I find impossible to decipher. For example, where would my most recent backup live?
Thanks for the follow-up and thanks for sending over a set of logs. However, it looks like you sent over a set of Roon logs, not Roon Server logs. Could you follow the same steps above, but this time, send over the ‘Roon Server’ folder?
With that, from the Roon logs you’ve sent over, we do see traces of TimeMachine being active on the Mac - any overlap of TimeMachine with Roon could lead to data loss and potential database corruption.
Because the Roon database is frequently being updated in the background with new metadata, cover art, artist information, and more, backing up your “live” Roon database using external programs can result in corrupt backups. Westrongly recommend againstusing Time Machine or other backup applications to backup your “live” Roon database. If you would like to use any of these applications to back up Roon, set up a Scheduled Backup and tell your backup program to backup the RoonBackups folder.
Let me know if disabling TimeMachine has any affect on helping your Roon Server startup.
WIth that if you right-click your Roon application > Show Package Contents > Are you able to double-click the Roon Server app and open it that way?
Thanks for that information. I resent a zip file of Logs (this time Roon Server Logs!). Starting the Roon Server app from Roon>Show Package Contents> path results in RoonServer and RoonAppliance showing up in Activity Monitor (see screenshot), but no windows open to be able to use Roon. Clicking the app icon at this point produces the “Waiting for your Roon Server…” window.
OK. I “excluded” Roon from my Time Machine backups. Pardon my ignorance here, but does Time Machine ignore ALL Roon-related files when adding “~/Applications/Roon.app” to the exclusion list? Or is there more that I must do to ensure that Time Machine is leaving Roon database files untouched?
Clicking “select different Roon Server” seemed to do the trick! Some details in my database were lost, but all the correct titles are in my collection. Looks like I’m back in business. Thank you!!
