· Roon seems to be stuck scanning files, as it will remain forever spinning, although the amount of files scanned never grows. Reboots and such seem to do nothing to change this (upon reboot, the scanning will start anew, and stick roughly in this spot).
There doesn’t seem to be any albums missing, so the scan seems to be complete, but it doesn’t actually end.
This also isn’t the first time this has happened. A few versions back it did the same thing, but a subsequent update fixed it… but now it’s back.

· just a gigabit unmanaged switch for the network. Files are on a NAS, Roon core is running on a mac mini M4 24GB RAM, with the NAS mounted via SMB3
Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear about your scanning issues.
From a fresh Roon Server diagnostic report, we can see the logs pointing clearly away from a library-content problem and toward an unstable SMB3 mount of the NAS (/Volumes/Battlestation).
So the fix is to get that SMB mount to stay up rather than anything inside Roon. In rough order of likelihood:
Stop the Mac mini and its disks from sleeping. This is the most common trigger. In System Settings → Energy, prevent automatic sleep and disable putting disks to sleep. You can also run sudo pmset -a disksleep 0 sleep 0 standby 0 in Terminal. An idle share dropping on sleep produces this exact pattern.
Check the NAS side. Disable disk hibernation/standby on the NAS, and raise or turn off its SMB idle-session timeout so it isn't disconnecting idle Roon sessions.
Make the mount persistent. A share mounted through Finder or a login item tends to get dropped when things go idle. Mounting via autofs keeps it stable and reconnects cleanly.
If it's still flapping, try adjusting the SMB client settings on the Mac (disabling SMB multichannel and/or forcing SMB3 via /etc/nsmb.conf is worth testing), and swap the network cable and switch port for both the Mac mini and the NAS to rule out a marginal link.
The best way to confirm the fix is to open Console on the Mac and watch for the share dropping while a scan runs, you want to see zero disconnects. Once the mount stays solid, disable and re-enable the storage location in Roon; the scan should complete once and the spinner should clear. 👍
