Roon Synology and Sonos [Under investigation - "Open vSwitch"]

Hello @Support,

I am currently trying Roon as it could be a good solution to federate all my metworked sound equipment in my house.

Setup:

Roon server on Synology 1518 x86 using the spk provided
Roon controller on a PC
Roon bridge on few raspberry pi and one PC
Sonos Play 5
Sonos Play 1

Everything is working fine, except the Sonos devices which are not detected by Roon when the server is running on the synology.
If I run the server on the PC, I can detect both Synology devices.

The issue seems to be linked with the Synology package.
My network is flat (1 C-Class for all my devices).

Hi, @Alexandre_Perraud, thanks for the report! Could you please give more detailed descripiron of your network setup? Are your Sonos devices connected wireless or using ethernet cable?

My play :5 is connected using ethernet. The play :1 is connected using wifi.

Colud please tell me if there were any Synology updates recently?
Is firewall turned off on your Synology NAS? If it’s on, please follow the steps here, turn firewall off, and see whether it fixes the problem.

Firewall is turned off. I can reach my sonos using Airsonos on the synology (via docker)

I just tested it on my Synology DS1511+ and the same DSM version. Could see both my sonos devices. (1x Ethernet, 1x Wifi).

Do you have a managed switch in your setup? Are jumbo frames, or link aggregation enabled?

checked and no jumbo frames activated. I have just completed the update of my syno to the last version.
The interesting thing is i can play music to my sonos via Airplay using Airsonos which is setup on a docker container running on the synology.
Is there a way to activate verbose logging on the application to debug a bit? I can also do a network dump if necessary!

Log Gathering Exercise #1:

Please sned us a set of RoonServer logs from the the NAS using the instructions found here.
Please title the package: “Alexandre_Perraud-LogsNAS.zip”

Log Gathering Exercise #2 :

Please temporarily host RoonServer on the mentioned PC, note the time when the Sonos devices are discovered/used for playback, and then using the instructions found here upload us a set of logs.

Moving forward, our techs are still trying to understand what could be causing this issue to occur and have asked me to have you please provide the following:

If possible, the team would like you to confirm that you are able to connect to the Sonos devices from via Synology without using a docker container.
You mentioned in your report that AirSonos works from inside a container on the Synology. If you are able to get to a “terminal” on the NAS, could you please try running the following command and give us a print out of the window?

Command: ping 192.168.8.247

Hello Eric and roon team,
I finally solved my issue. It was due to the Vswitch function which was enabled under the network interface settings.
Everything is working fine now!
