Roon Titan system crashes when accessing large artist library (ref#PHQ42F)

What’s happening?

· I am experiencing freezes or crashes

How can we help?

· I'm having trouble with my Nucleus hardware

Other options

· I don't like how the product works

Describe the issue

I have just upgraded to Roon TItan . I have had many issues and its only days old . Initally it would not play a full song , upon realising I had to insert my QNAP user name and password on the Roon software and my IMac it started t play whole songs . This helped ,however the Titan is still unstable, if I go to my favourite artist of which I have about 400 albums the system crashes . I tried to sub divide the file , but when I scanned through the alphabetical list of albums by artist it also crashed .The sound quality (when it works )is very good.
Highly frustrated with a very expensive product .
For context I do have 22000 albums on the system .However it seems too much for Titan .The Nucleus Plus was a more stable product .
If anyone in Roon land can help it would be appreciated
Have tried both my dealer and the UK importer

Describe your network setup

The Router is a Sky Router . The entire network system is hard wired .Switches Netgear.

Could it be that your new device is still analyzing your files? Maybe its procesor is busy doing this. What are your libary settings?

Hey @Charles_Bryant,

Thanks for writing in, and sorry to hear about your Nucleus Titan issues!

Can you share an image of the webUI of your Nucleus? Here’s more info:

I’d also be curious to review your Roon Settings>Library > ‘Skipped files’ as well as ‘Clean Up Library’ (don’t perform this action, just review stats)

Benjamin - How do I access/find the RoonOS webUI ?

Please read the article linked to by @benjamin in his reply. For example, it says:

The Web Interface can also be accessed by:

  1. Typing in the IP Address of the RoonOS Device in a Web Browser

  2. Typing the hostname of the device, for example http://rock , http://nucleus , http://nucleusplus , http://nucleustitan or http://nucleusone

  3. Typing the .local suffix for the device, for example http://rock.local , http://nucleus.local , http://nucleusplus.local , http://nucleustitan.local , or http://nucleusone.local

So, for example in your case, for a Titan, try typing http://nucleustitan into a web browser on your PC or Mac.

Hey @Charles_Bryant,

Thanks for sending that screenshot over! Nothing out of the ordinary there.

Upon a fresh diagnostic report form your Nucleus, we’re seeing a fair amount of corrupt files popping up during analysis, which may have led to a few recent crashes. Are you able to review your Roon Settings>Library>Skipped files

@Arlen made a decent point above - it does look like your Nucleus is still in the process of analyzing your library. Whats your setting for analysis speed?

Benjamin
The collection was scanned within the first day and its set up to to re-scan every 2 days .I have deleted the album that was coming up as corrupted on my hard drive ,in the skipped file .
Will see if matters improve

Thanks for the update @Charles_Bryant certainly let us know how things feel. :+1:

Describe the issue

Titan Woes

Dear Sir or Madam

On the 15th January I paid for and collected a Roon Titan from Sevenoaks Hi Fi my local Hi Fi dealer in the Uk. The unit cost more than US$4000.
Since that date thew unit has not worked once without issues. I have just tried to play Teddy Swims latest album on the unit and it took five attempt to get through the album. There were constant drops and the unit took up to 10 minutes to recover. This is not unusual I tragically get excited when a whole album plays with the unit losing connection or stops playing in some way. Since the 15th I have only managed to play 3 albums without the unit breaking down. I have been in constant contact with the UK importers (Henley Audio) and Sevenoaks Reading. They have suggested the steps set out below. I have also contacted your support section and have followed any recommendations they have made. Please see steps taken below.
By way of background, I have a large CD collection burnt to hard drive (QNAPS) about 10,000 CDs and the balance of my collection is via TIDAL. I was old Roon Titan on the basis it was designed to handle collections of this size and was more powerful than the Roon Nucleus + which I previously had. All of my internet connections are hard wired.
Steps taken
1.Initally tried to resolve issues. Put in all relevant pass words for my QNAP and TIDAL .The unit initially would not even be stable when I opened my favourite artist.Tried to reduce size of file by sub dividing the artists music into different categories .
2.Spent Friday after noon deleted all corrupted files or files in skipped list. No effect still drops out.

3.On advice of Roon dealer moved unit to new location thereby by passing a splitter. Did not work still drop out. Sometimes three times in one song.
4.Roon dealer suggests I plug the Titan into the Router directly. Titan recognises my Meridan 218 but when I press play the track does not play and just stays still, irrespective of whether the track is from my hard drive or Tidal. However, if I play my it through my Blusound Node 2.1 (hardwired into the Meridan 218, it plays fine)
5.Moved back to normal location, cab barely play two songs without it cutting out. The whole point of purchasing the Titan was to play my music located on my hard drive. This I cannot due with regular drop out.
The system keeps losing contact with the nucleus titan
The Roon Tidal appears to be neither fit for purpose not can it perform what it is supposed to do.
5.This weekend the unit was simply not working at all. Today it managed to play a few songs prior to disconnecting. Previously unit crashed when I was doing something else , now crashes if I am just playing a song .
Do you provide any sort of technical support because both the Uk importer and my local dealer have run out of ideas on how to resolve the problem. I currently have a $4,0000 product that has never worked properly

I’m sorry to read about your issues, @Charles_Bryant.

Since you already have an open Support ticket, I’m merging your message into that.

For a speedier response please reply to open tickets rather than starting a new one. Thanks.

Still heard nothing is there any kind of Roon in house technical support out there ?

@benjamin has been active in this thread - I would expect that he will return. Please be aware that the support team is small (four people) and they are dealing with multiple support requests at any one time.

How much RAM does your Nucleus Titan have?
Maybe you should upgrade your Nucleus RAM to 32GB.
My library has 146k tracks, After booting up, it occupies approximately 10GB of memory.
I started with 8GB of memory. I experienced crashes when I searched an album. So, I upgraded to 16GB.

Hello @Charles_Bryant ,

Thanks for your patience here. It looks like after the last message from Ben, we were waiting to hear back from to see how things were going (prior to the threads were merged).

I am looking over your Nucleus stats and yes, I can confirm that the library that you are trying to run is too large for the current amount of RAM of the Nucleus. The two options here would be to either use a smaller library and run a Clean Up Library function after trimming the library down, or adding more RAM to the unit.

A post was split to a new topic: Can anyone confirm whether the Titan ships with one 8GB RAM chip installed?

Closing due to inactivity. If you are still seeing this issue, please open a new support thread and reference this previous thread link.
