I'm running my NAS on a PC with OpenMediaVault and Roon Core is installed on a Debian VM on the same OMV environment. This worked just file for a long time. Recently I saw that my music library (SMB share on the OMV machine) is no longer in Roon. The share is accessible from any computer within the network and it is also accessible from the Debian VM that has the Roon Core installed ON. The Debian VM uses a bridge network connection and therefore has an IP address from the same subnet as all the devices. As an endpoint, I use an RPI4 with RoPieee and an external USB DAC connected to it. Roon works with online radio and TIDAL but I can't see my music that is stored onto the NAS. I tried all the combinations I could think of: \\server-ip\music ; smb://server-ip/music ; \\server-name\music ; smb://server-name/music. I also entered the correct usernam/password but Roon gives me an "Unexpected Error" message and not a message that it can't see the host.
Hi @Paroiu_Horia,
Welcome to the Roon community! Thanks for writing in to ask us about this issue. I activated diagnostics on your account and found this trace in your logs.
Hi @daniel . Thanks for looking into this. I’m not sure what you mean by “missing third backslash”. I initially used smb://IP_ADDRESS/music and this already has three backslashes. I also tried smb://IP_ADDRESS/music/ but it didn’t work (see attached).
Did anything change recently regarding network shares? I had to reinstall my NAS as it was acting up but I sett it up in the same way as before and it worked after the re-install.
Hi @Paroiu_Horia,
I looked into your logs from today and I’m seeing a different trace now.
01/12 18:37:45 Debug: [.NET ThreadPool Worker] [roon/cifs] tryremount, path: \\192.168.1.177\music, username: [edited out by support], password 10 chars
01/12 18:37:45 Warn: [.NET ThreadPool Worker] [roon/cifs] failed to connect to CIFS storage: Operation not supported
I’m not familiar with this trace so I will make a ticket for our development team to take a look at your case. Once we know more we will let you know here. Thank you for your continued patience!
Hi @Paroiu_Horia,
Our developers have proposed a way for you to mount the drive in a way Roon should see. Find the drive inside your VM itself and copy that path. Then use that exact path to create a regular watched folder inside of Roon.
For due diligence please ensure you have enabled SMB/CIFS in Services >>SMB/CIFS >> Shares settings in your OMV NAS. If none of that works we will move your thread to tinkering where you can receive more help as VMs are not officially supported by Roon.
I’m not sure I get this right. I’m able to see the shared music folder from my OMV NAS in the Ubuntu VM running Roon Core but I’m not sure how I can add that to a watched folder in Roon.
The SMB/CIFS is correctly setup as I’m able to access the folders from all PCs inside the home network.
I’ve also tried sharing a music folder from my Win10 PC and I can’t import it into roon. I get the same “UnexpectedError” message as with the SMB share from the OMV NAS.
