Describe the issue
Roon does not play DSD files (only).
Describe your network setup
Local network. Roon installed on Synology DS-720+ on SSD, Synology RT6600ax router
Thank you for your post. The Ayon S-10 II has multiple DSD-capable inputs, including both USB and Roon Ready (networked). Which are you using here?
Can you please share a screenshot of Signal Path in the arrangement that DSD files fail to play? Please also share the Device Setup page for this Zone.
Roon will only pass DSD to an endpoint that announces itself as DSD-capable. Be sure that you’re using the latest drivers available from Ayon, and that any relevant DSD settings in the endpoint UI itself are toggled on.
Hi. I use Roon Ready, I won’t display Signal Path because Ayon doesn’t start playing, after turning on the DSD file it will only display the cover and lock the player. I have to turn it off manually because it can’t even change the song to another one. The player seemed to freeze. I will add that Ayon directly plays DSD files via UPNP, only when using Roon this problem occurs.
Please check your DSD files’ sampling rates and your device settings in roon.
Your device supports up to DSD128 as input. Are your DSD files higher than 128?
Check DSD transport in roon. Is it set to “native DSD”?
Also check if option “Downsampling as needed” is set.
Be aware, there’s also a chance that your device only supports a subset of formats in case using RAAT/roon.
There’s no guarantee with a device that with RAAT every single format with its sampling rate and bit depth is supported as with non-RAAT input unless expl. stated in some manual.
Hi.
Ayon supports DSD up to 256, all these files have been played for many months. I have various DSD files from 64 to 256 and none of them play anymore (and all of them used to). I haven’t changed anything in the Roon settings, but all the options you mentioned are set this way. As I wrote earlier, only Roon has problems, I installed Audirvana and it plays without any problems, similarly to Ayon itself directly after UPNP.
Ah, okay. Interpreted their “DSD256 conversion” as output not input.
You haven’t done a firmware update on your device, before the problem began?
You always turn on you rendering device, before your Ayon before roon server?
The entire playback process takes place in Ayon, it is a DAC and preamplifier in one. Nothing else interferes with sound processing. There are no settings in Ayon, neither DSD nor any other, except balance.
OK. The update was supposed to be this week, but it hasn’t happened yet. It’s a bit strange that for audio purists, the “funny” Rose updated the software in a week and the “great” Ayon did nothing for 2 months. This is starting to annoy me. The streamer costs almost as much as a car, and repairing damaged software is a challenge for them, like renovating an F-32.
Of course. I talked to Streamunlimited and found out that Ayon has undergone a major update related to adaptation to Qobuz Connect, which unfortunately caused some
very unpleasant sideeffects, but they are working on a patch. As soon as it appears, I will provide all the information here.
Well, okay. There’s a new firmware (1.10.0). Everything works without any problems, DSD files via Roon of course too. It can be said that Streamunlimited and Ayon Audio have solved the problem.
