Is your device connected directly to the Roon Server via cable or over the network, or is it chained through another device (such as a streamer, Roon Bridge, or Roon Remote)?
· It is connected through a different device (e.g Rasberry Pi)
Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?
· The device has no problems with another audio source
Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?
· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains
If the device has multiple output options, do the other options work as expected?
· Only one output type is affected while the other output type works as expected
Is the device using the latest firmware as per the manufacturer?
· Firmware is up-to-date but the issue remains
What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?
· exasound s88
Describe the issue
I rip BluRay Audio with 5.1 Files on it with DVDFab into multichannel Flac Files. I can play these files with other players, but roon claims these files are damaged and won't play them. I have no problem with other multichannel Flac only when ripped via DVDFab.
Can you please upload a few samples of files that cause this issue in Roon so that we can try to reproduce on our end? Once you have send them, please let us know in the thread here so we can check, thanks!
Hi @Burkhard_Lohr,
Thanks for getting back to us with the file name. I found the file and added it to my Roon instance. Roon is saying that the file is corrupt and that’s why it will not play.
Do you see this on your Roon server?
Any Idea how to fix this?
When I load these files with audacity and then export them again without any change roon works fine with the new file. But that is too much work for a lot of rips.
I imagine it’s bad metadata, audacity likely doesn’t maintain the metadata and creates it all fresh. Perhaps examine the output of a file from audacity compared to the original using a metadata editor such mp3tag and see. If this is the case you can remove the bogus stuff and maintain what is needed such as album name, track names, album artist and artists on the tracks. Try it on one and see. If it works then batch the lot wont take to long to do a whole batch.
Also check bit depth of the flac files to see if they are different.
Hi @Burkhard_Lohr,
We’ve submitted a ticket to our development team regarding this issue. At the moment, our team is focused on addressing a few higher-priority concerns that affect overall functionality. While this particular issue isn’t on our immediate roadmap, we’ve noted it, and we’ll be sure to address it as soon as we’ve resolved the more critical items.
Thank you for your understanding and patience. If there’s anything else we can assist you with in the meantime, please feel free to reach out.
I’m opening this thread again since our dev team has had a chance to look into your report further and we have some feedback to share.
We’ve taken a look at why these files are failing to play, and it appears the FLAC metadata conflicts with the frame data in the files themselves, causing the decoding process to fail.
Even official FLAC testing tools confirm this issue, which indicates there’s a problem in how these particular files were created, because the files are not adhering to FLAC’s strict requirements, confirmed via a FLAC testing tool.
We recommend reaching out to DVDFab for further assistance in fixing or recreating these files. Hope this helps!
