After trying to play anything, roon tries bunch of tracks and then says: "Too many failures. Stopping playback."

roon won't start streaming and won't play local audio files either.

Describe your network setup

roon server > local sound card (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Hi @Michal_Holubec,

Thank you for your post. We can see the Realtek Zone tearing down in RAATServer logs immediately after it creates a session. This only occurs on Wasapi in the logset - what happens if you try another driver with this card, like the proprietary Realtek driver?

Please share a screenshot of the Device Setup page and the Signal Path for the affected Zone (the local Realtek output).

Do any other outputs fail with this RoonServer machine?

We see upstream connection failures intermittently in logs because of network reset events - please try disabling the consumer VPN santioning Roon’s upstream connection, as these are known to interfere with device discovery locally. This is not causal to your problem here, but it’s our recommendation based on experience for broader stability.

We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!

Hi connor, I’m using the default Realtek output with default values, I’ve only tried Wasapi as other option to no success. Taking screenshot of Signal path was quite difficult, as roon tries to load 4 tracks in a row before displaying the message “Too many failures…”

I don’t have any other outputs than the local PC.

Yes, I’m using VPN and used it alongside roon with no problems so far. I don’t understand what “VPN santioning” means?

Hi @Michal_Holubec,

Technically, the use of VPNs falls outside the scope of official support, so if you can please disable it while we continue to troubleshoot, that would be helpful - please reproduce the issue with the VPN disabled if possible, and share the track name.

Lets refresh your RAATServer database in the meantime to see if that helps.

You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

Thank you!

Finally got around to try this out - and so far it look like it worked =)

Hello @Michal_Holubec ,

Glad to hear that the RAATServer refresh did the trick! I will go ahead and mark this one as solved but should you have any further difficulties, uncheck the solution checkbox and please let us know. Thanks!
