Roon update causing resolution issues with Sonore system and Mytek DAC+ (ref#5MYU8Y)

Roon did an update on 12/13/24, I updated about a week or more later. My system is a Roon Nucleus, to a Sonore opticalModule to a Sonore opticalRendu to a Mytek Brooklyn Dac+. I am using Tidal. Now when steaming music through the Sonore System I am only getting an output to the Dac+ of 44kHz even if the song is of a high resolution. I found If I remove the Sonore system from the chain the Dac+ plays all resolutions as it should, 44, 96, 192... I have been in contact with a Sonore techs, they had me do a Sonore diagnostic test and now feel it is an issue with Roon. I have a copy of the Sonore diagnostic exam (3 pages). How should I proceed?

Hi @David_Benson,
Thanks for writing in to ask us about this issue. Looking at the signal path you posted we can see that as far as Roon knows it is outputting 96/24. There is no signal processing going on inside of Roon and looking at the Roon device settings you’ve shown no downsampling is going on either. In addition I noticed this in your post.

This says to me that some setting in the Sonore is causing this. I don’t see how this could be an issue with Roon. Are you sure you don’t have some sort of downsampling enabled in the settings of the Sonore?

I asked Sonore support about you thinking it could be some sort of downsampling enabled in the settings of the Sonore?

Here was there response,
It is not possible for Sonore to alter the music in any way. Sonore is running the Roon Ready code provided to them by Roon.

They suggested I try this,

On the Rendu go to Settings and DLNA/MPD and press save. On a phone or tablet install an app named mConnect. Give it your Tidal account number information and select the Rendu as the audio playback device (renderer). Play something through the system with a known sample rate.

I assume they are considering it could be an issue with Tidal. I will give this try and let you know how it turns out. Although to me it seems if it were Tidal causing the issue with my Mytek Dac+ only playing in 44kHz, why the when I eliminate the Sonore System from the chain my Mytek plays all resolutions from Tidal.

Question, is it possible for the Nucleus when directly connected to the Mytek Dac to send a signal that is somewhat different than when the Sonore system is engaged to send a different signal in someway that causes the Mytek to only play in 44kHz?

Hi @David_Benson,

Thanks for the follow-up. An easy test here would be to temporarily bypass the sonore devices, and connect your DAC and see if the same downsampling takes place. And vice versa, if you play to a different DAC or endpoint using the sonore devices, do you see the same issue?

I’d also confirm all your devices are ethernet-connected to your primary router.

If it’s only Tidal content, I would also review your Roon Settings>Services>Tidal>Playback quality setting to confirm there’s no downsampling occurring. :+1:

Yes all of my devices are ethernet connected to my router. Tidal is set to Max. When the Sonore system is taken out of the loop he Mytek dac performs as it should and plays all resolutions.

Update, A local distributor of Sonore lent me another Sonore unit. When swaped with my Sonore opticalRendu the Mytek performed as it should and played all resolutions. It was determined that somehow the software in my sd card of my Sonore opticalRendu had become fauilty. Sonore provided me with new software which solved the issue.

I would to thnak you and Roon support with assitisng me in finding the issue.
