· For the last month every time I start Roon it tells me there is a software update available. I press download all, but it is unable to install the update on my iMac. Error message is "there was an error checking for an update". The software functions normally, there is no problem listening to music, and I hoped the update would eventually download. But this has been going on so long I decided to report the problem

· I have a Nucleus Rev B and use an iMac, iPhone, & iPad as controls
Thanks for sticking with it long enough to report it, because there is a real cause here and it is not something you were going to solve by waiting.
Your Nucleus is fine. It is on the current version, 2.71 build 1683, and it updated itself successfully on August 6. Your iPhone and iPad are current too.
The one device that is behind is the iMac. It is running 2.70 build 1671, which is the version before the current one, and that is what puts the update prompt in front of you every time you open Roon. Since the Mac app and Roon Server ship together in one package on macOS, that single stale install is the whole of it.
On why it will not install. Your Nucleus logged two failed update checks, on August 16 and 17, and the reason is visible in the log. The request to our update service was answered by a Spectrum captive portal page rather than by us. The page is titled “Spectrum - Activation Home”, the sort of screen an ISP shows when it wants a modem activated or acknowledged. Roon received a web page where it expected update information, could not read it, and reported an error. Your Nucleus recovered on its own and has been fine since. We do not have logs from the iMac, so we cannot say with certainty that it is hitting the same page, but it is the obvious suspect and it fits the timing.
What to do, and it is quick. Please install the current version on the iMac directly rather than through the in-app prompt:
