Description of Issue

Unexpected error when I try to add network library plugged on Kalista USB input.
I try with few files only
I try \Kalista IP address\Music (name of SSD), I try smb://Kalista IP address/Music, etc.
UNEXPECTED ERROR
Do you know Kalista DreamPlay STREAM network name ?
I have to tell that this SSD works fine with M Connect !!
Any idea ??
Thanks a lot

Hi
I have had communication form Metronome technologies (Kalista)
When I plug USB SSD to the Kalista, it creates DLNA/UPNP server.
ROON doesn’t use this protocol, it has its own RAAT protocol…
So SSD is not detected…
Is there existing solution for this kind of problem ??
Thanks a lot

No Roon needs a smb share to use network based storage. UPnP/DNLA is for UPnP controller cofteare to connect and fwd it on to a UPnP/DLnA renderer it is not for sharing storage. You system is a UPnP server to serve up to UPnP devices. You need the storage local to your Roon core. Plug the drive into the mac.

I 5hink there’s a room extension to serve up upnp.

Not for network storage Ged which is what the Op was writing about. It’s a Roon Ready device already.

Ah my bad. :pensive:

Dear All,
Many thanks for your answers and your help.
Unfortunately, it seems that this product is not really Roon Ready.
I don’t understand how it can be possible.
Maybe it can be considered as a case of false advertising !?
I wish you All the Best !

It IS Roon Ready - but it is NOT a Roon Core, which is what supports adding storage options.

Hi
I don’t need it to be Roon Core, I have computer for that.
I’m just very disappointed to buy Roon Ready item that costs more than 20 K€ and discover that I can’t read my music on it with Roon… Without any acrimony, I do think it’s borderline communication…

Whilst I can understand your frustration, Roon Ready is clearly defined, and doesn’t claim to do what you had hoped.

However, if your music is on a USB drive, simply connect this to your core, and add this as a storage location.

I’ll do that and check if music is as good than with SSD plugged on Kalista (it works with M Connect).
If not, I try Audirvana as reader.

You seem to be misunderstanding what a UPnP server actually is The Kalista operates either as UPnp renderer and Roon Ready endpoint. When you have a drive connected to it it runs a local UPnP Server as well.

Mconnect is purely a UPnP controller software that a) connects to a running UPnP server on your network (your Kalisata), b) routes the files from the server to any UPnP renderer client (endpoints) on the network again your Kalista.

Roon is a server in its own right it needs to access the files via the operating system its on, either from locally attached drives or from storage using network share protocols such as SMB (samba). You cant do what Roon does with your library using UPnP as its not designed for this as its already doing the library server side processes. Roon in turn streams using its own protocol or the other supported ones but not over UPnP.
