Roon Vs Roon Arc on mobile phone

Hi, recently got my Nucleus One set up and running and installed Roon Arc successfully on my phone as well.
Just having a few odd phone playback related issues. When in I select my phone (Pixel 4a 5g on Android 14) in Roon it plays ok out of the speakers. When I plug headphones in the 3.5mm jack I get a notification that Roon has lost control of audio device. When I connect headphones via a usb dongle dac (Dragonfly Black) it automatically boots up Roon Arc. Any thoughts to what I need to change to enable headphone listening via primary Roon app when at home? Cheers Aidan

I think (but I can’t verify), that you should just be able to restart the queue at this point and it will continue to play through the headphones.

On my Pixel 6 (Android 15), I am asked if I want to open Roon ARC to handle the dongle DAC (a Fiio BTR7 in my case) but I can cancel. When presented with this option there is a checkbox ‘Always open Roon ARC when FiiO BTR7 is connected’ which I always leave unchecked. Maybe, at some point in the past, you have checked this box.

If this is the case, then you should be able to prevent ARC from running automaticall by going to the ARC ‘AppInfo’ settings, select the ‘Open by default’ setting and then use the ‘Clear default preferences’ button.

As an aside, I believe that this dialog is associated with the ‘USB driver (Beta)’ that can be enabled/disabled in the Roon ARC settings to take exclusive control of the USB dongle device and thus allow bit perfect audio on the dongle. Does Roon ARC still open automatically if you disable the USB driver (Note: doing this will cause all audio to be re-sample to 48kHz)?

It is worth noting that the standard Roon client on Android always uses the Android system mixer and so audio is always resampled to 48kHz. ARC, using the USB driver, will maintain the sampling rate of the source up to the limits of the connected dongle.

Hi Wade, many thanks for taking the time to respond. You were correct on all counts!

Pressing play again after inserting the headphone jack starts playback through the headphones.
I must have had ARC settings to open with the usb dongle by default. I cleared the default preferences in the app settings on the phone and now get the dialogue box where I can chose to leave it unchecked.
I have the USB driver beta selected and it doesn’t force ARC to launch automatically.

All sorted. Cheers Aidan
