Roon won't reinstall after attempting to change to dark mode (ref#T6T98W)

What’s happening?

· My Roon software won't start up

How can we help?

· None of the above

Other options

· My Roon software won't start up

Describe the issue

I downloaded Roon, set it up and created a playlist. Then I tested it. Music played, great. I wanted to change to dark mode in settings and the software locked up. I closed it and restarted it. Nothing on the screen at all. Nothing. I deleted all instances of Roon and Roon Server. Then downloaded RoonInstaller64.exe again but it won't load as it tells me I need to delete all instances of Roon Server. There is no file for Roon Server in AppData, in my apps file on Settings, I've checked all download files and nothing works. How do I get rid of what's holding me up from starting over with Roon?

Describe your network setup

Motorola Modem/Wireless router, one network switch, Synology NAS, Roon was loaded on a Windows 12 PC/laptop

Not delete, stop. The server is running as a separate process in the background and closing the Roon GUI app does not shut it down. (The music should not stop if the control app is closed or crashes, so the server is separate)

There should be a Roon icon in the system tray of the Windows taskbar. Right-click it to quit the server:

After that it should be possible to reinstall.

There is no Roon icon in the Windows system tray.

Did you look in the ^ menu where Windows likes to hide them? (In the above screenshot this is shown to the left of the Roon icon)

Hello @Michael_Kahut1 ,

Can you please upload your curreht Roon + RoonServer logs by using these instructions to the link below?

After that, let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a Windows machine:

All Roon_old on Windows

Yes, I looked there.

Strange. Start your Windows Task Manager and look under Details if RoonServer.exe or any other Roon processes are running.

I found Roon Server running in Task Manager. I shut it off.

That’s a nice, elegant process. However, there are no Roon folders or files showing anywhere on my PC. If changing the screen to dark mode creates an issue that can’t be solved easily, then Roon is not going back on my PC.

Hello @Michael_Kahut1,

Thank you for the update. Could you kindly let us know how exactly you removed Roon from your system? Did you:

  • Manually delete the Roon folders via File Explorer, or
  • Use Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps and run the uninstaller from there?

This detail will help us confirm whether Roon was fully uninstalled and if any leftovers might still remain.

Hi @Michael_Kahut1,

Diagnostics indicate that you haven’t logged into RoonServer since last posting, and that your Roon account might have expired.

If you wish to continue troubleshooting, the team would be happy to extend your trial so you have a chance to actually try Roon.

Please let us know here and we’d be happy to assist.
