Roon overheats my PC. When I load Roon, it operates perfectly. However, RoonAppliance is huge and memory use rises from about 25% to 43%. After a couple of hours, an overheat LED on the mb is illuminated and I remove Roon to prevent shut-down. It does not matter if Roon is active or not. It just needs to be loaded on the PC.
As we can see from our diagnostics report your PC hosting the Roon Server likely has 32 Gb of RAM and if upon launch of Roon the usage goes up from 25% to 43% - it means Roon Appliance takes around 6 Gb of RAM which is normal considering the size of your library (almost 100k tracks).
Can you please add a bit more details about your problem ?
Does the CPU load goes high and overheats ?
Or is it RAM the part that overheats ?
Does your PC have normal cooler/water cooler or it’s a passive radiator ?
No but I think I might have resolved the problem by updating the program. I had been using Build 1490. Just updated to Build 1582. The only parameter change I see is that the loaded RoonAppliance is almost half what it was. So far, all’s well but I reserve declaring vistory for a few more hours.
Thanks for the update and glad to hear that the latest Roon release is working much better. There were a few improvements we’ve made since build 1490, so it is likley that the new build is not triggering the previous issue due to the fixes. Please, continue testing and let us know how it goes and then we’ll close this thread.
