roonARC not working on my Galaxy S23 over WiFi or DATA

I can’t make Roon ARC to work even while at home
I have all versions up to date
Roon Server on Mac Mini i7 16GB 256SSD
Wired connected to the router

Don’t know what the problem might be since my room Server was automatically configured and has been confirmed to be securely accessible by room ARC

I’ve talked to my internet and mobile provider (Verizon) and everything it’s working OK at their end
Any idea what the problem could be?

Hi @Gustavo_Clerici ,

Can you please try to change the port number in your ARC configuration and see if that helps?

Describe the issue

I can't play any song on my Galaxy S23 with Verizon on Unlimited Plus not even while I'm at home over Cellular Data

Describe your network setup

Verizon
5G Home Gateaway
Ethernet
Roon Server 2.0 (build 14.07)/roonARC 1.0.52 Build 100266

Thanks for your reply
No idea how to do that
Any hints?

Open Roon Remote, and go to Settings > Roon ARC. You’ll see a text entry box, called PORT, where you can change the number. It’s probably set to 55000 or a similar number. Try a different number in the range 49152–65535.

OK thanks
Right now it’s on 55000
I’ve changed and seems to work at least while at home, I’ll tray it on the road
Hope it works

In Roon Remote under Settings > Roon ARC, check that you see this, i.e., Roon ARC can securely access your Roon Server.

@Gustavo_Clerici, I have merged your other thread as it’s best to keep things in one place when it’s the same issue.

I thought I would append this thread, sorry, rather than duplicate the issue.

Today after listening via ARC for 30 mins I had a temporary break (to have a coffee) and when I tried to start playback there were connectivity oroblems even thought wifi & mobile signals were good to excellent. Playback using plexamp worked perfectly. See screen shots for errors…

EDIT; Forcing closing & restarting the iPhone didn’t resolve the issue.

That was the same kinds of messages I was getting
Since I changed the port number I haven’t tried it on the road outside the home, will see

I’m wondering if it could be something to do with 5G since 5G tower range is very short/limited?
If that the case it should work fine with 4G or LTE but I try to switch to does networks earlier while I was having these issues and didn’t make any difference, so no idea

Sometimes force closing the app and reopening it refreshes the connection. You’ll see the loading bar when you first open the app along the top.

I’ve tried that but didn’t worked
Thanks anyways

Finally, I went out to test it and it worked for one leg of my drive and after 2hr disconnected, roonARC never came back to work
Only till I get home and refresh the roonARC settings
This was as soon as I left home in the morning

This one when I tried to reconnect

This one after refreshing the roonARC settings back at home

At this time I guess the issue is that port forwarding in the roonARC settings has to be refreshed every now and then

Does anybody had this issue?

The problem is that being out during the day I can’t do that (refreshing the roonARC settings on the server).
I’d need to set a remote desk access to the Roon server.
There must be another way, I’ve checked settings to see if there’s any setting preventing roonARC from being refreshed automatically or not needing to do the port refresh (anyone would work) but couldn’t find any

Again I’m with Verizon for Internet and Mobile
The router is wired connected to roon Server

Description of Issue -

Here I go again!!!
Same post because I’m still having the same problem
Can’t make roonARC work on my mobile phone
No matter if I’m at home or out
No matter whether it’s over WiFi or Data

On my previous topic, one proposed solution was, to manually change the port number on roonARC which I did, but the main problem continues
Another suggestion was to make sure no VPN or Firewall, and I never had them
Another tentative solution was to update apps to the latest version which I did and the problem continues

I’m only able to listen to one song each time I open roonARC (regardless WiFi or DATA) it looks like it only plays what is in “buffer” or something

roonARC is READY (see attachment)

Connection to roon server shows working
After playing one song it gives me the same message as from the beginning (see attachment)

This capture is while I was on 5G but I get the same message over WiFi

It’s very frustrating having this issue and none from Roon to help me solve it (don’t make me start with USB DAC on Samsung Galaxy S23)
It’s incredible that being in 2024 (5 years after Deckard was chasing Replicants through Los Angeles Streets) we keep having these issues

As mentioned in one of my previous topics for this same issue I’ve been in contact with my ISP for over 2hr over the phone and in the end, they just told me “Everything is running OK at our end, there’s nothing we can do”
And while I was finishing this post I was playing with settings on roonARC and all of a sudden, it started working in 5G
So with all excitement after listening 4 songs in a row, I said to myself I GOT IT!!!
NOT So fast (roonARC answered) while I continued playing with different settings changing “Automatically pick best quality” on and off and when off changing settings for wifi and Cellular and also changing WiFi and 5G but in the end, it was just a stroke of good luck and it returned to be as unreliable as ever

Thankfully, we have this community but it seems none is having this same issue
Is anybody having roonARC working on Verizon (5G Home Internet Gateway and Mobile) on a Samsung Galaxy S23 device?
It’s hard to believe that I’m the only one with this setup in the whole community. If there is anybody here I’m really curious to know how they’re making it work

room please help me

Hi @Gustavo_Clerici,

Thank you for your patience. Let’s take a closer look at what we can ascertain from the diagnostics presented to our servers from ARC.

ARC has address allocation errors when it attempts to reach upstream servers - this can sometimes mean that Verizon isn’t allowing the phone to contact certain servers. Do you have a business-tier account for either your cellular or internet service? These are known to actively interfere with ARC.

Here’s what I recommend in the meantime - this article will describe how to install a third-party VPN on your Mac Mini and on your Samsung phone that should allow ARC to connect under the network conditions you’ve described.

Hi Connor,
Thanks for your reply
I don’t have a business-tier account for either your cellular or internet service

I’ll see how it works with the VPN
In my experience with VPNs speed has been always compromised, but I’ll give it a try

Thanks again

Well! I followed instructions and installed Tailscale and it was as if nothing changed I didn’t get too far, I was able to play 2 tracks and when I tried to play the third I got the usual message

As you can see I tried several settings on my roonARC app but nothing
I’m really curious about how many roon users have Verizon (which is the #1 Carrier in the USA) and they’re running roonARC without any issues

What should I do next?
Thanks in advance

Can anyone at Roon help me out?

Anyone helping with this issue?

I know roonARC has no extra charge but it is included in my yearly subscription and it’s not working and I have no way to get any help from roon
