Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

I have the server installed on an nas drive. It worked initially but now is stopped. I updated the version to 2.65 yesterday and it started working again. Today the server status is "stopped" and I cant get it running again.

Describe your network setup

Hello @luperfam ,

Welcome to the forum! The requirements for installing Roon on a NAS have changed. Please see the following guide on how to best install Roon on your QNAP:

I have the same problem. Please, help

If you are on a system that is no longer supported then read this,

If you need any assistance I suggest to open a support case.

They sent me instructions to install the container app on Qnap. Followed these to the letter, got the “green check mark”. Still won’t work, phone won’t connect to the server. I’ve pretty much had it, cancelled the service.

Hi @luperfam,

Sorry to hear you’re still having issues getting your devices connected! It looks like there may be multiple active subnets within your local network. I would either try to confirm all your Roon devices are on the same subnet or temporarily disable all but a single subnet, reboot your devices, and force everything onto the same subnet.

We’ll be monitoring for your reply and results, thank you! :folded_hands:

Hello, it will connect to the nas, but it says the “music” folder is empty. Do I need to go into the nas and move stuff around? I specified the path my old Sonos uses to access the music, says invalid. Pics follow.

Hey @luperfam,

Thanks for the screenshots! In that screenshot, you’re trying to create a new folder inside a share you’ve already connected to, rather than telling Roon where to find your music on the network.

Since your Sonos setup used that path, we know the NAS is sharing it correctly, we just need to speak Roon’s language.

In your screenshot, you are in a “New folder” dialog. You can’t type a network address as a folder name because folders can’t contain slashes (/).

Instead, do this:

  • Go to Settings > Storage.
  • Click Add Folder.
  • Select Add Network Share.
  • In the Network Share Location box, use this format: smb://NAS307C65/Multimedia
  • Pro Tip: If that fails, replace NAS307C65 with the actual IP address of your NAS (e.g., smb://192.168.1.50/Multimedia). Hostnames can be flaky; IPs are forever.
If you still have issues, many older NAS units (and Sonos setups) default to SMBv1, which is a bit of a security dinosaur. Roon usually prefers SMBv2 or SMBv3.
  • Log into your NAS web interface.
  • Look for "File Services" or "Win/Mac/NFS" settings.
  • Ensure SMBv2 or higher is enabled.

Let me know if this helps! :folded_hands:

On the road, I’ll try it when I get home and report back. Thanks for the help.

Sounds good @luperfam, we’ll be monitoring for your reply and results :+1:
