rooPlay - From LP, CD and iPhone to Roon

Even if I might find a solution to stream Audio from Windows Roon Relay works but with a delay of approx. 10s. Makes no sense with youTube or Netflix.

Hi @DrCWO congratulations for this great product! I’m been happily using it for several months, but after an unexpected reboot of my raspberry Pi all my roo licenses disappeared, I successfully reenter rooWatch and rooDial but I can not do the same with RooPlay even though i’m sure the license is correct. Any idea? Thanks in advance

Very cool API. Put it on my list for integration. Will be useful for LP playback too :+1:

Hi @Cesar_Mejias,
I’m back from holidays now :+1:

Please e-mail me the License key of your rooPlay to info@definiteaudio.de and I’ll check.

No worries, I managed myself to work it out (I don’t know how…) I just restarted (three times) my raspberry Pi and my ROCK and the license appear back again. Thanks anyway!!

Hello there @DrCWO.
How are things going with the integration of the Roon Audio Relay API ?
I am considering buying a turntable, but are unsure about the Victrola TTs. I would rather go for something else and use rooPlay.
Maybe you can update us on the progress?
Danke

Hi @ToKr,
rooPlay can be used with a TT as escribed in the Manual of the rooExtend Box. You have to set up a Radio Station in Roon to use it. You also need a ADC with RIAA to convert the input signal to USB. You can use the cheap Behringer UFO 202 for first testing. Other suitable devices are shown on the rooPlay website. I use the RME ADI-2/4 Pro that has built in RIAA so I need no preamp.

The Roon Relay API woks the same but you don’t have to manually setup a Radio Station. Beyond that, the API offers no further advantages.

The last three weeks I was out of office visiting the HighEnd Show in Munich and a holiday break. The next releases includes the Relay API but it it not yet released. A Beta is available and if you like I can add you to the Beta Testers group.

Will continue working on the next release during the next few weeks.

Hi there, any chance the API will mitigate the latency/delsymthat the radio station based solution suffers from?

No, the API uses the same buffer length and cannot be changed. So same delay. Sorry

I have the roo extend box. I have two questions:

  1. What is the WAN port for?
  2. This device only has 1 USB port. I use it for RooMax. I want to connect a CD. Is it save to put in a USB hub?
  1. The WAN port is for connecting the rooExtend Box to your router. The LAN port is to connect any other device. This is useful if you have for example only one Ethernet Cable in your listening room but want to connect your Streamer and the rooExtend-Box. So plug the cable from the wall outlet to WAN and connect your streamer to LAN.

  2. Yes, you can add a USB-Hub. I recommend getting one with an external power supply if you connect devices getting power via USB.

At the moment RooExtend (rooPlay) is not stable at all in Roon.
All connections are wired and restarting everything (Roon, NUC rock, RooExtend) in all kind of order didn’t help.
In the extensions page of Roon Rooextend is disappearing after a few minutes and a few minutes later it appears again.
Furthermore to play music after a reappearing the settings have to adjust each time from source to be played from none to audio.

I need the system log for diagnose. You find it if you open the rooExtend Service Page at http://[IP of your rooExtend]. The IP you can find at the end of the rooExtend License Manager Settings Page.

Plase e-mail the System log to info@definiteAudio.de

Hello DrCWO,

Think I need some assistance here, as I am having issues with RooPlay which doesnt make sense.

I am running RooPlay and RooDial on a Holo Audio red and everything works fine when playing vinyl through the UFO202, however and as I wanted to upgrade the path a bit I bought the Furutech GT40 alpha and am experiencing an the extremely glitchy connection.

In most instances, I only get really bad electric noise with the music being very faint in the backgound and in the few instances where I do get music trough there is background noise.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this, as I did get the GT40 based on recommendations on this page. I did try a Thorens MM008 ADC first and that didn’t work and had to return same.

Best Regards,

Peter

DrCWO,

Please disregard the above for now, as I think the issue is with the GT40a. I have just had it connected to Audacity and I am only getting a signal in one channel and lost of static in the other.

Guess I have another product, I need to retur :frowning:

Brgds,

Peter

Afternoon All,

Please be informed that the miniDSP Adept works as a charm straight of out the box with rooPlay and can handle both MC and MM cartridges (besides also having balanced and unbalanced line inputs) with gain, impedance and capacitance settings for each.

Haven’t done any critical listening yet, but sounds fine so far.

Brgds,

PAH

Very cool :+1:
In the next release rooPlay will be able to also handle mixer settings if the ADC has e built in mixer for example to control input volume.
Also such a setting can be saved on a button of the rooPlay remote so you can change mixer settings for rooPlay (for example input volume or channel selection) with a single button press using rooMax.

@Peter_Hansen, do you know if the ADept has a mixer to allow setting of the inout source via USB. If you don’t know and like to help me finding out please PM me so I can tell you how to check.

I’m curious to know if this will function with a Raspberry Pi 5. Thank you!

Raspberry Pi 5 is not yet supported. It needs a differnet image as all the others. I plan to make it in future but at the moment I have so many other things on the ToDo list. Sorry.
