RoPieee installation on CM5 attached to CM5 IO board with NVME fails to boot

Hi,

I tried to install the current stable ropieee on a nvme drive which is on a CM5 IO board, together with a CM5 without eMMC and WIFI.

I can flash the image to the NVME drive by putting a jumper on the IO board and loading the driver in windows. The flash with the raspberry pi imager tools is succesfull according to the tool.

After this you’ve to take the jumper off the board and powercycle it. The CM5 doesn’t boot from the NVME drive for some reason. I can see the RPI startup screen on a monitor, it sees the nvme but refuses to boot from it.

When I do the same with volumio 3 it works.

I mounted the NVME drive also in a NVME casing on my computer, can see files and configs which belong to ropieee.

After some thinking I flashed Ropieee on a sd card, took out the NVME and after some waiting ropieee is there and configurable. But it would be nice to run it from the NVME because it’s much faster and I’ve had my share of broken sd-cards in the past…

Why don’t you try taking the NVMe out and putting it into a USB-NVMe adapter housing for the imaging process? I have done a couple with DietPi, no issues.

Your described process seem to associate with the (possibly) built in eMMC on the Compute Module?

NVME is not supported right now.

I switched to volumio 4.

Did get ropieee close to booting from the nvme by adding options in the pi config files. Flashing the nvme drive in a usb housing results in the same results. Decided to go for volumio 4 in the end.
