RoPieee - plays but no audio / then gets stuck

Hi all,

I’ve been using a RoPieee pretty seamless for years as an endpoint until the last month or so.

I’ve got a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2 running latest stable RoPieee 2025.10.2 (2898), it connects via USB to my Oppo UDP-205 and Wi-Fi to my network.

I’m getting instances where:

  • I start the song playing, it seems like it’s playing but no audio.
  • I press pause / start and the song continues but no audio
  • If I stop, and select another song I then start to get an error “Starting playback on your audio device. This may take a moment!” but nothing happens.

I’ve re-flashed a separate micro SD card and put it in, and I get the same issue. Not sure what’s going on…

@Akerow,
Personally I would suggest that the error is rather on your DAC than on RoPieee. Have you restarted your DAC by unplugging the mains power, waiting a few minutes, and plugging it back in to the mains?
If that doesn’t help, I think you best sent a feedback to Spockfish, so he can analyse what is going wrong.
To send a feedback, logon to the RoPieee via a browser and go to the tab “Advanced” and click at the bottom on “send feedback”. Now you can post the feedback-identifier you receive, here in the chat. Don’t forget to add Spockfish to the threat, as he is the only person who can analyse the feedback.
Kind regards, Frank.

Thanks, I’ve dropped the feedback - the unique identifier is 8b433b7097e25b64

@spockfish
Hi Harry, Is it possible to you to check why his DAC is not playing correctly?
His feedback: 8b433b7097e25b64

I’ve been playing a bit more:

  • Updated to latest firmware on Oppo UDP-205
  • Multiple reboots
  • Hard reset of settings
  • Plugged out power
  • New USB Ugreen cable

… I’m out of ideas, I’ve put an order in for a WiiM Ultra and will see what the issue is. Really hope it isn’t the Oppo 205!

The logs show that the Oppo connects, but disconnects very quickly again.

So this has nothing to do with playing, the Oppo is not even connecting properly (or more precise: stays connected).

Have you looked into cables? Because this could very well be a faulty USB cable.

Hi, thank you for the response. I’ve tried a new USB cable - UGREEN USB Printer Cable Braided Printing Cord Type A to B 2.0 Male Scanner Lead High Speed Compatible with Epson, Brother, HP, Lexmark, Dell, Xerox Printers, Piano, DAC 1M : Amazon.com.au: Computers. No luck unfortunately. After the further changes mentioned above, I’m struggling to get it to connect at all now. I’ve connected up a WiiM Ultra in replacement of the RoPieee and not having any luck. Makes me sad that the 205 is playing up :frowning:
