RoPieee with Questyle CAS192D DAC

Hi,

I successfully built my first RoPieee last night without any issues (Thanks!) and managed to get it working with my Questyle CAS192D DAC. Currently this DAC supports ‘True DSD’ which I have only managed to get working on my Windows 10 laptop via Roon with the ASIO driver over USB.

Do you think there is any way that RoPieee could be made to support the CAS192D for its ‘True DSD’ mode?

So Many Thanks!
Chris

Oh the details of the DAC are here.

Hi @Christopher_Purves,

It depends. To be able to support native DSD (what Questyle calls ‘True DSD’), the Linux kernel needs to be patched. I can take care of that part, but the other part is depending on the USB chipset. Often you see is that the USB chipset requires a firmware patch to make native DSD happen on Linux.

The good news is that we can check this rather quickly. Are you comfortable with SSH and command-line?

Yep - perfect happy

Best
Chris

Ok, let’s do this then:

login to the RoPieee (ssh) unit with username ‘root’ and the same password. Run the following commands:

cat /proc/asound/card*/stream*

Thanks!

Ok, this is good. They indeed support native DSD, so what I’m gonna do is patch the Linux kernel and release an update for RoPieee. If you would be so kind to test it then we can add it to the list of native DSD-capable DAC’s.

Oh. One more thing: I need a little bit more info. Can you run the command

lsusb -v

Thanks!

ok thanks for that. I’ll create an update and poke you when ready. Will take a couple of days though.

Thanks so much!

Chris

Hmmmm… This should already work, as the kernel was already patched (they use the same chipset as in the Hegel HD12).

Are you sure you can’t set it to native DSD in Roon? Can you send me a screenshot of the DSD settings?

Hmmm… that’s really strange. It should already work, but for some reason it’s ignoring the read out from the DAC…

Does the version of RoPieee matter? I have 20171209-1

I am online for the next few hours so if you need me to run anything / try anything just let me know!

Chris

When I plug in the DAC I note I get 2 zones to enable under the Ropieee - is that normal?

Chris

No it is not! And now that you mention it, I see it in the interface as well.

So… did you try the other one?

No, it’s about the kernel, and you’re running a kernel that has the patch.

Cant get anything to work in any way on the 2nd interface - have attached a screenshot.

Sort of seems like Ropieee is interpreting 1 interface as 2 somehow and assume that’s why you don’t get offered the Native DSD.
