Hello Rasperians,
are there any RPi solutions that would be suitable for powering a ROON zone in a screen porch / covered deck? Ideally I’d like something to act as ROON transport / DAC / Amplifier to power in ceiling speakers, but if that’s more functionality than even a Swiss Army knife could handle a separate power amplifier is OK.
Thanks for your help!
Hi,
yes this:
It works perfectly I have several in the house. Other HATs are available from HiFi Berry.

Not sure I would put any pi based system outside, even if the porch is covered…
We don’t know where the Pi is to be located, only the speakers (which will rot if the cones are paper and get wet).
The original post is ambiguous but if the pi is not to be placed outdoors why state where the speakers are placed as it is immaterial?
It is relatively trivial to weatherproof something like a Pi and HAT.

Well the presumption is that the speakers are already in.place, otherwise other solutions may be more appropriate ie Bluesound.
I use my iPad on Bluetooth to a Beoplay A1
Works lika a dream . any phone would too
I plan to use relatively inexpensive in-ceiling speakers and have good access to the space above with power for the controlling hardware (RPi based) so exposure to the elements isn’t a concern.
Any good experiences with in ceiling speakers would be helpful too.
Thanks!
Just the kind of thing I’m looking for, thanks!
I’m happy with a setup using RPi3+ running ropieee, along with HifiBerry AMP2.
The AMP2 is both a DAC and a 30W amplifier, so you just wire it to your ceiling speakers.
Another great option, thanks!
Yes. I have several similar setups in ‘non-critical’ listening areas. Cheap (MonoPrice.com) speakers, a Pi with HifiBerry Amp2 and an old laptop power supply. Super easy.
