Sample rate conversion (help!)

Hi everybody,

A big noob here just getting into the world of Roon (and audio in general).

The DAC/AMP I’m using is Matrix Audio Mini-I Pro 3, through WIFI, and source is Tidal (Masters).

Q1: Which option should I be using for sample rate conversion?

  • Max PCM rate
  • Max PCM rate (power of 2)
  • DSD

Q2: If I should be choosing DSD, for “Sigma-Delta modulator”, which option should I be choosing?

  • 5th order
  • 7th order
  • 5th order (CLANS)
  • 7th order (CLANS)

Thanks heaps…

Why do you want to do a rate conversion? It looks like your DAC supports pretty much any format there is.

Try all of them and see what sounds best then stick with that. Personally I don’t like the effects of upsampling so much I leave everything at native rates. YMMV - everyone hears differently.

Pete pretty much what Mr Fix It said.

I have this device and always thought DSD 128 sounded really nice and then I saw an extended product review (I posted it into the Mini I-Pro 3 thread) and he made the comment that the Dac output sounded superior on DSD compared to PCM so that was good to know that (but sometimes I switch back to max pcm rate x2

(Though on WiFi if you get stuttering music on DSD 128 you might want to drop it to DSD 64, that is still 24/96 quality from memory)

Just keep in mind that when you are playing MQA from Tidal it will still come through directly to the streamer and not be converted to DSD.
