Samsung Q90R soundbar not recognized by Roon over WiFi (ref#U8T51K)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I am using a Mac as my Roon Server. I would like to stream directly to my Samsung Q90R soundbar over Wifi but the Q90R does not show up as a network device in Roon. Can Roon stream to Q90R over wifi?

Roon’s partner page doesn’t list it as being Roon Ready or Tested, so no network connection possible.
It’s not Airplay compatible either.

No guarantees, but you could still try HDMI, optical or bluetooth connections from your Roon server, a remote or bridge device.
Good luck…

Hi @Mike_Metcalf,

Thanks for the question.

At this time, the Samsung Q90R soundbar is not a Roon Ready or Roon Tested device, and it does not support AirPlay or Chromecast. Because of this, Roon can’t stream to it directly over WiFi.

Without one of those supported protocols, network streaming from Roon isn’t possible.

Your available options would be:

  • Wired connection from a Roon endpoint (HDMI or optical, if supported)
  • Using an external Roon endpoint (for example, a Raspberry Pi–based Roon Bridge Audio Gear Talk > RoPieee or another Roon Ready device) connected to the soundbar

Let us know if you’d like guidance on setting up one of those alternatives.
