after updating the Galaxy S24 Ultra to OneUI7, there is a major issue caused by the Roon application.
When I launch the Roon app, everything works fine. That is until I try to access notifications (swipe down).
At that point, the entire system freezes—so much so that restarting or shutting down the phone becomes nearly impossible.
I disabled the Media Player option for live notifications, thinking it might resolve the issue, but it didn’t. The problem persisted. Shutting down the phone was impossible, in any way. When I paused the song on the Roon server, the phone system unlocked itself.
The conclusion is that it is impossible to use the Roon application on the S24 Ultra with OneUI7.
Edit:
When the Roon process is active and the phone is locked, the system freezes upon unlocking.
This means that the only way to use the phone is to terminate the Roon application process after making any changes in the app. It must not remain active because it will block the UI.
I tried clearing the cache for Roon and wiping the system cache, but it didn’t help.
This behavior of the Roon application is extremely frustrating, especially after the issue from February 2024.
Hello @Zeljko_Naumovic1,
Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.
We’ve gone ahead and enabled diagnostics on your account, but it appears that the Roon app on your Galaxy S24 is currently not running. Could you kindly open the app and leave it running for at least 10 minutes?
This will help us collect the necessary data to investigate and identify any potential issues.
Kind regards,
Vadim
The application is currently active on the phone.
I resolved the issue by disabling the “Enable Lock Screen controls” option in the settings. With that option enabled, the phone’s UI would constantly freeze.
Hi @Zeljko_Naumovic1,
We’re glad to hear you found a workaround for the freezing issue. I’ll go ahead and mark this thread as solved, but it’ll stay open for a few more days just in case anything else comes up. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance!
I don’t think it’s right to mark this as solved after all, because the issue remains when the option “Enable Lock Screen controls” is activated.
For example, when this option is turned off, the basic commands for Roon (next, pause, etc.) on my watch (Garmin Epix 2) are not available to me.
Besides, some people want to use the commands on their phone’s lock screen.
Hey @Zeljko_Naumovic1,
Thanks for the follow-up and for your input. You’re certainly correct in your thinking! That said, you’ll notice within settings that ‘Enable Lock Screen controls’ also has a ‘(beta)’ included with the toggle. This is because we’re still working out the kinks, and it isn’t something we can confirm proper functionality 100% of the time.
All of this said, we’ll still share your specific report with development to help with their work. To better equip our team with even more information, could you please reproduce the issue and share a more sepcific date, time, and name of track playing when the freezing occurs?
We’ll attempt to enable diagnostic mode on the device afterwards to gather additional insight into the failure occurring. To set proper expectations, it may not be something we’ll be able to push an immediate fix for, unfortunately.
Thank you!
Now I have caused an error (by enabling the mentioned option).
Time: 18:30.
Song: Love Is Here to Stay (Houston Person, Ron Carter, Album: Remember Love), Qobuz.
If I can help in any other way, feel free to let me know.
Do you have some kind of error logging on mobile phone?
I have read in many places that Samsung has a problem with OneUI 7, specifically regarding locking and unlocking devices. Some sources even say that they have stopped the update. It is possible that the error is not on your end.
Hi @Zeljko_Naumovic1,
Thanks for providing that timestamp and for letting us know about others experiencing similar issues with OneUI 7—that’s definitely something we’ll look into further. I’ve requested a new set of diagnostics from your phone to help us capture the most recent error.
When you have a moment, please open Roon on your phone so the request can complete successfully. Let us know once that’s done!
